Come protest the Christian Science Church and their abuse of children (denying them medical care)

I am sorry, but I think it is wrong to tell others that their religion is wrong, especially when we are asking for acceptance of our own religious beliefs!!!

if their religion kills someone, then i think it's wrong. They can believe whatever they like, when they force that belief on a child and it causes harm, then i have a problem with it.

Don't get me wrong, Brian; I agree that it is downright stupid for Christian Scientists to refuse medical treatment. I just think that they don't FORCE their religion on their kids any more than we do, we all make stupid (and life threatening) mistakes due to our beliefs, and I think we would make more enemies than friends by getting all up in their faces.

This is not about forcing religion on folks it is about endangering children and the elderly who cannot make their own decisions.

It is about the public good. If someone chooses not to get treatment for a non-communicable disease and they truly understand what they are doing, fine. BUT WHEN NOT GETTING TREATED EFFECTS AND INFECTS OTHERS that is not OK!

Also when you can bill medicare for "treatments" which are nothing but prayer with MY tax $ I have a right to say something about that!

As supportive as I am of this and plan to attend I think we need to be clear about something, what are our GOALS here? In other words at the end of the day how do we measure success? What are we trying to do here? Educate? Produce some kind of change? Harass? Personally I would like to see us work to close the legal loop holes that allow those that deny folks medical attention in the name of religion to do so. This protest is a great first step but we need to move on from this.

Children's Healthcare Is a Legal Duty (CHILD), Inc. and a number of medical and child advocacy organizations are actively working to improve child protection laws. This protest is for victims of the CS church to raise awareness of these efforts and themselves and we go out to support them. More info, see childrenshealthcare.org and the facebook page which has a lot more info on June 8

PS, we are not criticizing their right to have their religious beliefs, we're protesting the fact that their BEHAVIOR kills babies and children. They do force their beliefs on their children in the sense that the smaller children have no say when they're ill, suffering, and dying.

you can take the purple line T to the Back Bay stop, then the orange line to the Mass. Ave stop, then walk to the protest.

We're meeting in Providence at the train station, taking the T purple line into Boston. The train leaves at 9:43 from Providence.
