Atheist Hiking Day

People in the Connecticut group suggested a hiking day, I picked the first Saturday in October, maybe we can meet at Arcadia in RI. It's a big wildlife area with lots of hiking trails and ponds. Bring the kids and dogs and we'll enjoy some nature. We can change the date and place if needed, this was the first thing that popped into my head. Brian

I am guessing a few hours of hiking, maybe to the lakes and back. We're meeting a little past the church actually

I love the irony in meeting at a Baptist Church! I'd like to go to this - how long do you plan to spend hiking? I have to be back in Providence by 5:30 or 6. If it's just a few hours, I can probably make it.

There are signs on 95 for Arcadia Wildlife Area.

On route 165 about 2 miles west of route 3 is a small Baptist church (corner of Frosty Hollow Road). About 1,000 feet to the west of that on route 165 is a parking lot (dirt road on the north side of 165). We can meet there and take the trail to a couple of ponds. I've been
there before and this parking area is a good place to start. I have trail maps. I'll bring water and snacks too. If anyone gets lost my cell phone # is[masked]

I love the hike idea!! There are some mysterious stone cairns in that area - might be fun to check out with the atheist/ skeptic group. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventry,_Rhode_Island (scroll down to "Recreation".) The Arcadia area is beautiful, but very tick infested through most of fall, so dress/ use repellent appropriately. It's too bad they have hunting there or I'd suggest a late fall/ early winter hike. Wish I could join you, I'm working that day. Have fun!
