Second Athens MongoDB Meetup!

Agenda:

18:30 Registration and welcome coffee (15 min)

This time we’ll be offering various flavors of capsule-type coffee (and tea, too!) like cappuccino, espresso, lungo, espresso macchiato, mongocino, jsoncino, nosqlcino blah blah etc etc, so make sure you arrive on time and grab a cup (ok, or two).

18:45 Our group logistics, announcements & planning with Thanasis Efthymiou (15 min)

19:00 MongoDB basic queries by Maria Filippousi (45 min)

Maria Filippousi is a Requirements Analyst at Persado. She has been working as an analyst always alongside with the development team for 9 years now. She has studied Informatics and has an MSc in Management Information Systems. She enjoys getting to know every aspect of the product being developed, therefore had to learn to write Mongo queries 3 years ago, when called to write specifications for the MCS Platform and wanted to follow all design meetings as well as perform acceptance white box testing.

19:45 Break (15 min)

20:00 MongoDB in Software Competitiveness International (20 min)

Software Competitiveness International (SOFTCOM INTERNATIONAL), is a rapidly growing company, specializing in Software and ICT Services, located in Athens and headquartered in Crete. We provide the high processes maturity, the professional diligence, experience and skills of the large Multinational Companies, combined with the flexibility and the personal commitment of the Start Ups, the Middle European working conditions and mentality and a beneficial "price to performance" value.

20:20 .NET talking MongoDB demo by Thanasis Efthymiou (20 min)

Thanasis Efthymiou "wanted to work with computers" since the childhood days he couldn't afford (and never got) an 8088. He enjoyed four years developing telecom SW in Siemens, and another two years of QA in banking and mobile marketing applications. Since 2009 he is a Service Delivery Manager in Upstream and Persado, launching more promos than he can remember around the globe. His every day struggle is pursuing operational excellence and that's why he prefers automating tasks using various programming languages. When his queries won't run, he prefers cycling.

20:40 Q&A over coffee and drinks

Very nice meetup with very nice and interesting people. It looks like many of them had something to say and it would be nice to share some of their experience with all the rest. Idealy, we should have new members talking each time and expand to less strict issues like 'best practices while working with any database' , 'regular expressions usage' and things like that. Maybe we can also schedule a 15 minutes brainstorming in the middle of each meetup with more abstract ideas and free conversation related to mongo, projects (if they're not confidential :P ), problems, hidden features and things like that. Thanks again!

Content-wise it was rather lackluster. However, compared to other meetups I enjoyed the audience engagement and overall atmosphere. I find this important when building/maintaining an active community through meetups - content interest is always subjective.

Great speakers and the greatest thing of all, full engagement of the audience throughout the sessions! One of the best meetups I have attended; after all it's all about the people! :)
