Are you ready for a family friendly weekend of fun and excitement on the Flint River?
Join the Georgia Conservancy, Keeping It Wild, REI and the Gerald I. Lawhorn Scout Camp on September 14th and 15th for an adventure weekend that includes outdoor recreation, bluegrass and great food!
The Flint River Adventure will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14th at the Gerald I. Lawhorn Scout Camp in Molena, GA and will include activities for adults and children including archery, zip-line and hiking during the afternoon.
The fun will continue with a barbecue dinner prepared by the award-winning Billy Steve Satterfield of Americus, live bluegrass, a speaker, campfire-n-s’mores, an “owl prowl” and a campout (various camping arrangements provided).
Sunday morning's family friendly paddle trip on the Flint will launch at 10:00 a.m. Canoe and paddling equipment is provided.
Our partners at Keeping It Wild will be leading a special historical and cultural activity over the weekend. At 11:30 a.m. you are encouraged to meet in Woodbury, GA (on the way to the weekend festivities) for a special presentation on Horace King, an inspirational African American master bridge builder and politician from the mid-1800's.
Gear, meals, activities and entertainment are all included in the cost, which is $75 per person and $245 for a family or a group (max of 5 people). We will offer tent camping and platform camping (raised, canvas sided tents with beds) and a separate "family friendly" camping area. We will have "outdoor ambassadors" on hand to assist first-time campers or folks who might need help setting up a tent.
