Hello group!

I'm fairly new to analytics and javascript, in particular. I'm trying to figure out is how to add a Custom Variable to an existing GA tracking script?

Using the following snippet, can I simply add the custom variable method after the existing function?

Current script:

<script type="text/javascript">
var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXX']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
(function() {
var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
})();
</script>

Sample Custom Variable:
_gaq.push(['_setCustomVar',
1, // This custom var is set to slot #1. Required parameter.
'Section', // The top-level name for your online content categories. Required parameter.
'Life & Style', // Sets the value of "Section" to "Life & Style" for this particular aricle. Required parameter.
3 // Sets the scope to page-level. Optional parameter.
]);

Final script block:
<script type="text/javascript">
var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXX']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
(function() {
var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
})();

_gaq.push(['_setCustomVar',
1, // This custom var is set to slot #1. Required parameter.
'Section', // The top-level name for your online content categories. Required parameter.
'Life & Style', // Sets the value of "Section" to "Life & Style" for this particular aricle. Required parameter.
3 // Sets the scope to page-level. Optional parameter.
]);
</script>

It seems to be correct, but I want to make sure before I update the script.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Regards,

Brion
