New Meetup Group: Data Science ATL

Hi y'all!

After brainstorming the idea with several people at the last Hadoop meetup, I have started a new meetup group called Data Science ATL.

Why another meetup? I felt that while we have lots of excellent meetups in Atlanta around data analysis tools (Hadoop, R, HPCC etc), we are missing enough discussions on data analysis techniques. This meetup aims to fill that gap. Any topic or project involving applied statistical techniques, analytics, data mining, machine learning and data visualization is absolutely welcome. That being said, tools are a fundamental part of data science, and we will absolutely love talks about interesting work using cool tools, as well as firms coming up with new technology in this area.

1) We are looking for speakers, both for full-length (45 minute) talks as well as lightning (10-15 minute) talks. If you or someone you know has something cool you are working on, no matter what domain it's in, tell us about it!

2) We would also like more sponsors/perks! Dell SecureWorks has generously sponsored the organizer fees, but we would love sponsors for food. If your firm is interested, it's a great opportunity!

Hope to see y'all at the first meetup.

Raj and all,
A more general, platform agnostic, "how to deal with the data" Meet-up is welcome, especially if there is a track for newbies such as my-self.
Raj, did you know of
Geoff may have beat you to the start.
Exciting times!
