Did you know that local theaters broadcast and show a number of Metropolitan opera performances? They are broadcast live during the season, with encore performances on the weekend. This summer there are six encores of Met operas:
The first is Carmen:
Richard Eyre’s hit production stars Elīna Garanča as the seductive gypsy of the title, opposite Roberto Alagna as the obsessed Don José. Carmen "is about sex, violence, and racism—and its corollary: freedom," the director says about Bizet’s drama. "It is one of the inalienably great works of art. It's sexy, in every sense. And I think it should be shocking."
Conductor: Yannick Nézet-Séguin; Production: Richard Eyre; Barbara Frittoli, Elīna Garanča, Roberto Alagna, Teddy Tahu Rhodes
Running time is approximately 2:58. Original broadcast was in 2010.
To buy tickets ahead of time:
Note that there several theatres around metro Atlanta showing it, including in Chamblee and Alpharetta.
We have been offered a pair of free tickets to the Perimeter showing. I will choose a winner at random---but depending on the number of people who are interested in the free tickets, I may focus on those people who have already attended a number of events and don't have m/any No Shows. The tickets will be mailed to you, so make sure you will really use them! I will let you know Friday morning if you have one and will need you to reply back immediately with your e-mail so the tickets can be mailed to you.
I won't be able to attend on the 19th. I will suggest ways that those who are attending can find each other.
