Atlanta Node.js October Meeting

Hello Peeps!

We have a great meeting lined up for you this month!

Stephen Adkins will present

Asynchronous Programming with Node using the async, when, and deasync Modules

Managing the challenge of asynchronous programming in Node.js is a big adjustment for developers who are new to the environment, especially with regard to

* code clarity
* error handling
* deep serial execution
* parallel execution
* execution

which is driven to a depth defined by data at runtime rather than at development time
Fortunately several modules exist which can help dramatically with these challenges: async, when, and deasync.
We will explore how each of these modules helps address these problems within the context of building a simple Node/Express REST/JSON web API. The material will therefore be very practical, suitable for beginners, but hopefully with elements that will add to the proficiency of experienced developers as well.

Stephen is the CTO at VIMtrek, a company serving the AEC Industry (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) with 3D visualization tools and industry data analytics combined on an industry-wide web portal, to help building owners save 10% on the cost of a new building. The technology stack of choice includes NodeJS, Express, MongoDB, and Sencha on Linux at Amazon.

Stephen comes to VIMtrek through a sequence of successful startups in which he has served as CTO and CEO. This includes a decade-long role as CTO at The Rubicon Group, serving the worldwide travel industry with competitive intelligence data products through a SaaS-based big data analytics platform.

Stephen has an M.S. and B.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T. and an MBA from Georgetown University. He currently lives in Marietta, Georgia with his wife Susan and three children.
