Meetup details changed: Atlanta Node.js May Meeting

From: Joseph D.
Sent on: Friday, May 2, 2014 10:51 PM

We have a great meeting for you this month!

Arin Sime will present

WebRTC - Real Time Disruptive Communication

WebRTC is an emerging part of the HTML5 standard for incorporating peer to peer encrypted video, audio, and data channels between browsers, with no plugins or downloads necessary. This opens up interesting new applications to developers for everything from integrated video chat to peer-to-peer data exchanges. Arin Sime will present the basics of WebRTC, example applications, and how to incorporate it into your Node.js application.

Arin Sime is the editor of, a weekly newsletter focused on real time messaging and WebRTC technology. He is also CEO and founder of AgilityFeat, a software development consultancy based in the US and Central America. Arin is also working on a book about building WebRTC and real time applications.

Tom Merrihew will present

LevelDB & Node - Introduction, Use Cases and Running in Production

LevelDB is a high performance, embedded, key-value storage system created by Google. It differs from many other storage options because it has no dependencies, it runs inside another process and it is highly configurable. This presentation will provide an introduction to LevelDB and its Node.js implementation with LevelUP. It will also cover more advanced topics like extending LevelUP through 3rd-party modules and using LevelDB in production.

Tom Merrihew is a co-founder and CTO at Gather, an Atlanta-based startup building solutions for the private events market. Gather has two web-based products --- a SaaS platform used by restaurants to manage their private events operations, and a marketplace for event planners to instantly reserve rooms at these restaurants. Both products are built on top of a 100% Node.js API. Tom is a full-stack developer and has been working in web development for over a decade.
