After spending a good bit of time looking for a group of like minded individuals interested in racing, motorsports, and wrenching on cars of all shapes and sizes, I noticed there was a lack of such a thing in the Atlanta area.
There are several purposes for this group, and given my penchant for lists, I will present them in bullet format for your enjoyment.
You should join:
1. To enjoy the sport of autoracing. I am a huge ALMS fan, but I'll watch almost anything track related. Viewings will be arranged either at venues that agree to show the race and host our group, or in person. I love road trips to tracks.
2. If you want to go beyond watching the races and get in the driver's seat, this is where you want to be. I have done several track days, and I don't plan on stopping now. I should be able to arrange group rates for time on tracks in the area and out of our area.
3. To take road trips and find fun roads. There will be day trips to twisty roads and scenic locations involved. Tail of the Dragon anyone?*
4. If you like to wrench on your car, or someone else's car. I'm almost always working on something either on my car or someone else's. I figure there should be a support group for busted knuckles and grease under the fingernails. I plan to have monthly wrenching sessions. Need your brakes changed? Have some strange noise coming from a scary location? Want to install the rollbar? Well, we're the app for that!
That about sums it up. This is like gearheads anonymous, but our twelve step program is only going to take you deeper into the hobby. So come on over, join up, and smell the rubber burn!
*Note: We don't do stupid and we don't do illegal. It's for fun, but we always respect the road and the other motorists that are on it.
-----------UPDATE-------
Great news! Now that Anna is an organizer, we'll be posting the schedules up for upcoming SCCA, BMWCCA and NASA events including track days, PDXs, Time Trials, Driving Schools and of course road racing! A quick way to check what's going on in the area is through www.MotorsportReg.com, and feel free to suggest anything that is in the area! Also - she is a longtime corner marshal, and if anyone is interested in coming out for a day at the track to get the best and most exciting seats in the house, send her a request. Best of all, it's free!
