The spirit of the Sister Cities Program is expressed in the purpose of the Atlanta – Rio de Janeiro Sister City Committee: to facilitate increased contact and exchanges between the cities of Atlanta, Georgia and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This aim is based on a belief that greater interaction between the two cities will build on feelings of mutual goodwill. The Sister Cities Program was launched in 1956 by President Eisenhower. Our committee membership is open for those who have an interest in building business, cultural, and educational opportunities between our two great cities. It is also for those who have an interest in the people, culture and customs of Brazil in general. At every meeting, we will learn some new and exciting aspect of Brazil and we will also be able to take advantage of unique travel opportunities for business, culture, or pleasure made available only for members.
