Super Bowl Weekend Wolf Ridge Trip 2014

We had a good time last year since there were lesser people overall at the slopes. We felt that we should do it again this year, but changing it up to Wolf Ridge.

Overall plan is to stay at Asheville, NC, but drive to ski/ride at Wolf Ridge, NC on Super Bowl weekend. This allows us to enjoy the mountain during the day, and relax and check out Asheville during the evening.

Plan -

Friday, January 31, 2014:

• 6:45PM - Meet at the BP gas station on I-85 Exit 120 (Hamilton Mill). Address is 2463 Hamilton Mill Pkwy, Suite 320, Buford, GA 30519. If coming up 85N, turn right onto the exit. Stay on the left-most right turning lane. At the light, turn left onto Braselton Highway (124). Then turn left inside the shopping plaza. From there, you can get to the BP gas station.

• 7:00PM - Leave for Asheville, NC. It's around 3 hours from Atlanta.

Saturday, February 1, 2014:

• 8:00AM - Head out for Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. It should take ~35 minutes to get there.

• 9:00AM - Buy tickets/rent equipment.

• 4:30PM - Finish skiing/riding and head back to Asheville, NC.

• 6:00PM - Grab dinner as a group, maybe around downtown Asheville.

Sunday, February 2, 2014:

• 8:30AM - Check out from hotel, and head back to Wolf Ridge.

• 9AM/10AM - Ski/ride yet again.

• 2PM/3PM - Leave for back home.

Price -

• $79 Lift ticket for two days (9AM - 10PM).

• $25 Ski rentals for two days.

• $35 Snowboard rentals for two days.

• $102 for one king or two queens at Super 8 Asheville, for two days. (You'll need to call them for the negotiated rates. I'll email you the details.)

• $0 Ski/Snowboard beginner lesson for the first day!

Other Information -

• For people who RSVP, I've emailed you some details. If you haven't seen any emails from me or Meetup, please check your junk mail / spam settings for those emails. My email address is my first name at hotmail.

• We are using group rate pricing since we have enough people to qualify. You'll need to bring exact cash to me so I can pay Wolf Ridge all together as a group.

• Wolf Ridge itself is around 3.5 hours away from Atlanta. Last year we were able to get back in time to watch the bulk of the Super Bowl still.

• If you want to catch a ride or room with somebody, we'll try to find somebody who can drive or room with you. No guarantees though.

• Harrah's Casino is roughly one hour west of Asheville...

Updates:

• Jan 7th - Added information about the discounted hotel rates. Also improved outlook on obtaining group rates to be 90% confident.

• Jan 11th - Opened up the reservation some more. Also changed pricing to use group rates since we have enough people to qualify.

• Jan 12th - Include information about free beginner lesson on the first day.

• Jan 25th - Finalized the caravan meeting point.

So. Good. Period. Good amount of sore muscles, first GoPro camera test run, riding in the rain, Asheville DT exploration at LAB w/ $8 sampler, and most importantly meeting lots and lots of fun, nice people. Special thanks to Manirith, Calvin, Kung and all other organizer/volunteers for all the sacrifices you've made. Let's do it again. I will definitely help out next time.

Hey. Are there any girls on the trip yet? Anyone who would share a room.

    January 11, 2014

    • Manirith

Current count is 6 girls and 10 guys. The girls already have their sleeping arrangements, sorry! Hopefully more girls will RSVP for the trip. But at least the room rates are very cheap!

Hi Jen. Sorry I missed your message. Did you lock down a room yet for this weekend?

Hi, anyone want to save money and share the room, please contact me. I made a reservation already but there will be two beds.

All, it's a little less than a week before trip time! I've sent y'all an email about the hotel and caravaning details. Some of y'all haven't responded yet. If you didn't see my email, please look at your spam folder from Meetup or from my first name at hotmail. If you still can't find it, please contact me via a reply to this post. Thanks!

I am a beginner. Would this trip be appropriate for a beginner? I amy even want to take a lesson one day.

This trip is definitely appropriate for a beginner! Wolf Ridge is 40% green (beginner) trails. However I do admit that if you look at the website, one set of their green trail paths is closed (Ridge Runner to Turning Point to Upper Nature View). Maybe it'll change in three weeks, but regardless the other set of green trail paths are long and wide enough for you to cut your teeth (figuratively speaking).

Another added incentive is that you can take a free skiing / snowboarding lesson on the first day due to our group reservation. We have a mix of skill levels (skiers and snowboarders) so you also have our brains to pick if needed too.
