We have an excellent presentation lined up for this meeting that you won't want to miss. Roy Taylor will be presenting on the topic of "Building Community as it relates to Food, Energy, & Economy."
Perhaps you are already pretty far along at being more self-sustainable...Perhaps you have your own garden or orchard, maybe you even have some chickens...Some of you have long term food stored for 'just in case'...others have backup heating sources like woodstoves or even solar panels for cooking and heating your house...Some of you may even have homes in the country as the 'back up' plan.
These are all excellent steps to take toward being more sustainable. But let's face it, none of us can survive 'comfortably' on our own. Perhaps the idea of living in a commune sharing 75% or more of your living space with others doesn't sound very attractive to you either.
In this presentation, you will learn about how other communities are working together, sharing together, making their community 'substantially' more sustainable and yes, even profitable while maintaining their private homes and current modern lifestyles.
The presentation will begin with a 10 minute video of communities that have become significantly more sustainable when they worked as a group...but each doing what they do best. Then Roy will share his '12-step' approach toward sustainability as a community...as it relates to Food, Energy, Economy. Roy has already begun creating a community and will share his knowledge, wisdom, and first hand experience with everyone.
A number of new members have shared their interest in learning more about sustainability topics such as gardening, canning, alternative energy, etc. If you come to this meeting, you will meet many seasoned folks who have 'been in practice' for a number of years already.
Come out and join us...learn from others and share your expertise as well!
We'll start off with appetizers and networking at 7pm followed by a shared potluck dinner. We will provide the main course. You can either bring a covered dish or donate $5 to the jar - whichever you prefer. Lemonade and water will be provides for drinks or bring what you prefer to drink. Presentation will begin at 8:30pm and be followed with a Q&A session.
