Job Description
The Designer, Special Projects will provide design and usability resources on special projects (advertorial or sponsored projects, seasonal projects, specialty sites, etc.) that originate with or service one or more of the digital online brands. This position also serves as a primary point of service for the Digital Software Innovations Lab, designing innovative, elegant and usable interfaces for products originating in the digital "test kitchen". The successful candidate will be able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and be comfortable meeting aggressive deadlines.

Gathering and documenting User Experience requirements - including wireframes, workflows, functional prototypes and graphical user interfaces - for special projects to support the digital brands and digital Test Kitchen.
Collaborating with the UI developers to implement designs in rapid, iterative development cycles.
Collaborate with the User Experience Analyst to evaluate the success of the designs and develop recommendations for usability and/or functional improvements.
Publish designs through multiple CMS systems as proof-of-concept.
Provide design or information architecture resources on other projects as needed.
Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum 4 years experience designing and architecting websites, web applications, and/or web-based software. Familiarity designing online presence for newspaper, television, or radio.
Ability to communicate usability and visual design principles to all levels of an organization
Ability to develop conceptual high level visualizations such as: wireframes, functional prototypes and mockups
Familiarity with W3C standards and cross-browser compatibility and limitations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong aptitude for translating requirements into visual concepts.
Must be familiar with various content publishing software packages, and have experience translating designs into templates for use on various CMS platforms.
Must be a self-starter with strong collaboration skills; must be comfortable working directly with technical teams.
Must be highly flexible and creative, and work well on tight deadlines.

Adobe Creative Suite, including: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and Fireworks
Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Microsoft Visio
Experience coding with HTML / CSS / JavaScript / AJAX a plus
