Optimizing websites with SPDY and SSL (Pizza + Drinks)

Our June 2nd meetup in on a Monday which is a little different for us. We will ave free pizza, beer, and drinks. We also have an awesome presentation for you:

Presentation: Optimizing your website with SPDY and SSL.

Did you know you can optimize your website's performance *and* improve the security of your site? In this presentation, we will discuss SPDY, the basis for the next generation of HTTP which can drastically improve page load times. SPDY leverage SSL to work, and so we will discuss how to optimize SSL for the best experience possible. There have been a number of major security issues with SSL recently, such as the Heartbleed bug. In this talk we will explain what the problems were, and how you can avoid them.

We hope to see you there!

The biggest benefits that SPDY provides at this time are:
Request/response multiplexing: better page load times because all requests are shot off to the server at once, and all replies can be sent out of order.
Stream prioritization: Browser can inform the server which resources are more important than other, so the server can prioritize responses.
Header compression: less bits transmitted (and therefore better performance) because SPDY avoids sending the entire http header with each response. Akamai's research shows that depending on the customer¹s use case, page load times are improved between an impressive 20% and a disappointing -5% (become slower). As Billy mentioned last night, as will all performance tweaks, your mileage may vary.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
