Major Pablo E. Mercado is a Military Police and Infantry Officer currently serving as the Range Operations Officer in the Georgia Garrison Training Center Command, Georgia Army National Guard located at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the son of Pablo and Carmen Mercado. He attended school in Puerto Rico, finally graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, San German campus, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
He joined the Puerto Rico Army National Guard in 1993 and became a Military Policeman; attending OCS and becoming an officer in 1995, serving as a TOW Platoon Leader and later as an Infantry Platoon Leader in the 2nd Battalion, 296th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Separate Infantry Brigade, currently the 92nd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
He transferred into the Georgia Army National Guard in 1999, joining the 48th Infantry Brigade where he served as a Support Platoon Leader, Brigade Liaison Officer, and Company Commander. He later was assigned to the 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade as Brigade Plans Officer, and Military Police Operations Plans Officer. Currently he serves under the 78th HRF at the GGTCC as the Range Operations Officer.
He deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom [masked]) where he was the Brigade Liaison Officer, and subsequently to Afghanistan [masked]) where he was the Executive Officer of the Base Support Group and Deputy Commander of Camp Eggers, in Kabul, Afghanistan.
His decorations include the Combat Action Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals.
In civilian life, MAJ Mercado is a Board Certified Optician and a Fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry.
