Fernbank Science Center in Jeopardy
On May 24, a committee of the DeKalb Board of Education put forth its latest budget proposal. This proposal would eliminate funding for the Fernbank Science Center, an award-winning facility centrally located in DeKalb County which provides science education to DeKalb County students and outside students alike. In addition, the center provides training for teachers, who are made more effective in teaching science in the classroom. The budget for the center is $4.7 million, but the return on this investment is immeasurable.

Hearing dates
Budget hearings are scheduled for Wednesday, May 30 and Wednesday, June 4, both at 6pm.

Hearing location
DeKalb County School District
Administrative & Instructional Complex
1701 Mountain Industrial Blvd, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 (map)
