Skeptical Movie Night

While everyone recovers from a fantastic SkeptiCamp and we start lining up speakers for the upcoming months, I thought we'd do something a little different:

So come along to the inaugural Atlanta Skeptics Movie Night!

We will meet back at the same location as SkeptiCamp with the plan to watch a few skeptically themed movies/shorts. I'm currently open for suggestions and will publish the selected movies soon.

The event will be pot luck / byob, I'll provide cups/plates/cutlery but bring along whatever you would like to eat/drink and lets have some fun.

At the moment the forerunners for movies/videos to watch are:

Here Be Dragons

Bad Universe

The 'bumpers' from SkeptiCamp (Occ The Skeptical Caveman etc)

Scooby Doo

I'll make sure we have the above and we can select from them on the day.

It was a great change of pace. I got to chat with established friends and make some very intriguing new ones!

"The Ledge" is out on DVD. I also second the vote for the original Scooby Doo. :)

Is there an oven or microwave oven available? If a microwave, how big?

If humor is warranted 'Monty Python's Life of Brian' is an excellent choice.

Curious whether “The Name of the Rose" was suggested because it’s considered bad or considered good, and what if anything it has to do with skepticism. As I recall, it was a pretty good movie, starring Sean Connery. The driver behind all the action, as I remember, was a search for a priceless lost manuscript by Aristotle — a pretty rational guy.

Ice Age 2012 is a great horrible disaster flick. Bad acting, bad story, really bad science. The kids and i enjoyed watching it.

Here be dragons is great, although his voice can sound a little silly to some people.

Christian and I saw Expelled in the theater (on the other side of Chamblee), but I think we paid for something else. I'd suffer through it again, since I listen to those idiots' podcast regularly.

Contact, Scooby Doo (seriously...an old one would be fun) and The Matrix. Is it possible to show the SGU video from Tam 9? That was short, campy and funny.

Starting the conversation on what we might want to watch. I was wondering about 'Here be dragons'. And maybe a re-watch of some the shorts we had for the bumper real during SkeptiCamp.

But lets also consider some non-skeptical movies that we can rip apart :) (just no 'Expelled', it really was too bad to watch).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
