Chinatown Square

  • This place has no atmosphere, but what it does have is very authentic Chinese (and some Japanese) food at extremely low prices (entrees are about $5 to $8 dollars).  Lots of vegetarian options, almost all vegan, including a place that does all the vegan fish/meat imitations.  Additionally, there are lots of tofu dishes, as well as veggie dishes.  I especially love the way they do green beans (wokking them at a very high temperature) and scallion pancakes.  There are five or six different stalls where you can go up and order a feast, sampling at each different vendor.

They don't take credit cards---BRING CASH!

Alcohol is not available, but they have water, tea, and soft drinks.

While nonvegetarians are welcome to participate in the dinner, everyone attending will be ordering vegetarian/vegan dishes:  veggies, noodles, rice, tofu, etc.---NO CHICKEN, BEEF, PORK, or FISH/SEAFOOD.

I may be combining this with another veggie/dining group for a total of 20 slots.  Please honor your RSVP!

This venue is also listed in some places as 5381 New Peachtree Road; regardless, you can't miss it on New Peachtree.

Joyce, there are some dishes that use oyster sauce (and a Malaysian place that uses shrimp paste), but there are many dishes that don't---and we will have someone who can speak Chinese and ask that any fish sauce etc. be left out...

    Hi Ellen -
My experience wiht most Chinese and Japanese restaurants is that they use fish sauce and other non-vegetarian ingredients in most of the dishes. Is this not the case at this food court? It sounds wonderful if it is truly vegan!
