I went pescatarian about 1 1/2 years ago, then vegan (ish) June 2012. My daughter, age 9, went vegetarian in 11/12.
I had tried to go veg a few times in the past but could never seem to make it "stick". As I got older, my total cholesterol started creeping up (it got up to 239 with my hdl:ldl ratios being skewed in the wrong direction). I started having increasing problems such as sharp pains in my chest, neck, and head and swelling in my legs. I suffered heartburn every night and indigestion. It just became increasingly obvious that I was heading in a very bad direction. Given that I had tried the vegetarian tract and did not do well on it, I decided to try leaving the seafood option available. I did very well on that and could have continued on that tract forever. Then I met a vegan. I was in shock since I didn't think these existed in Middle GA ;) But it made me mindful of the possibilities that I COULD exist without eggs/dairy/seafood. Shortly after this, I was reading Genesis and came across Genesis 1:29-30. That was the clincher. Obviously, veganism was God's original plan.
Hello! I'm an almost-vegan, a RN, a wife, the mother of 2 children, 1 of whom is a vegetarian and so excited to meet like-minded people.
