I became vegetarian three years ago, during my sophomore year in college.
During my sophomore year in college, I had the opportunity to travel through Ethiopia for a month, where I encountered severe hunger for the first time. Upon returning, I started reading more about hunger, poverty, and food justice in the United States, and what I learned was appalling. I decided to become vegetarian initially out of a desire to minimize the resources I consumed. Since then, vegetarianism has become an almost spiritual discipline for me, allowing me to practice my beliefs in nonviolence, simplicity, sustainability, and wellbeing for all creatures, human and nonhuman alike.
Hello, everybody! My name is Abby and I recently moved to Atlanta to spend a year of service with a volunteer corps. I am passionate about nutrition, food justice, cooking and baking. I cannot wait to explore the Atlanta food scene!
