POSTPONED: Leafletting at FREE BIRDS in Kingston NY (and Hot Cocoa Hang)

Hi everyone: due to the forecast of bad weather, we are postponing the official leafletting and will post a new date (for within the next 10 days) soon.   Some of us may still go to the film tomorrow (scope things out inside and outside the theater, maybe even talk to staff, and just check out the film so we have better angles for discussion while leafletting) and if you are interested in still going to that, give Rebecca an email holler - - -

The mainstream animated film, FREE BIRDS, provides a fab and fun opportunity:Let's show up at these two afternoon screenings at the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston (info below), give out full-color cards from a great animal advocacy organization, and help people learn how they can REALLY free birds, and feel healthier and happier in the process.  As little kids will likely be taken to these afternoon screenings, the tone is going to be happy, to reach families with a positive approach.

F.A.R.M. (Farm Animal Rights Movement) made up great color cards for the occasion, which teach about how turkeys really need our help, and are designed to capitalize on this animated mainstream movie's message. For those who don't know, this film, incredibly, is about two turkeys, fearing for their lives, who team up to build a time machine and try to go back in time to get turkeys taken OFF the Thanksgiving Day menu for good.

We obtained 500 of these cards for free (thank you, F.A.R.M!)  plus we have another 500 of F.A.R.M.'s "Gentle Thanksgiving" educational cards to hand out.  Even reaching just a few of the people who are moved by the films underlying message will be steps toward ending the mass suffering of these incredible birds.   Come on out, and in between showings we can go to Mother Earth's cafe to warm up and have vegan treats.  Advance warning: a turkey costume just might be rented for this occasion.  I know you will all fight RM for a chance to wear it!

Info on the film and screening times is at this link (we hope to cover the 12:05 and 2:30 screenings, people arriving and leaving - but these times are subject to change based on weather and scoping things out in advance so stay in touch):,+NY&sort=1&ei=jch_UtGdEqrisATGvwE&mid=3c3151f777f2ae7d

HAPPY UPDATE: the leafletting began on the opening weekend of this film and a total of 25,000 flyers were handed out by over 100 activists. Can't wait to add our numbers to that mix. Here is the post on F.A.R.M.s website -
Perusing the film reviews, it is amazing how the message is lost on so many but it is also heartening to see the people who get it (for better or for worse - many negative reviews by parents urged people not to go, saying their "kids may have a hard time eating turkey for thanksgiving after seeing the film." The film apparently glorifies pizza and has some actual, big chains featured so it is not a cruelty-free message 100% but judging by the trailer I saw on Fandango, it does convey that these birds are in a terrible situation, gloomy factory farms and such, and need to escape. Heck, I am just curious. Will be in touch with leafletters individually on Friday to confirm time, place, etc.
    Stay cozy, meanwhile - RM

    Hi Rebecca and Kirsti,
What a fantastic idea! I didn't even know FARM had developed those wonderful postcards. So glad to see AOTNKV is organizing this. I'm happy to help on Sunday if you feel you need an additional person. I haven't seen the movie but I love a good animation so if anyone wants to see the film on Sunday after the outreach, I'm up for that as well!

We definitely are wanting to go see the movie after we hand out cards, so I will be in touch with all turkey-advocates before the weekend to confirm the time and place we will meet. Right now we have 5 people confirmed, so that's a happy leafletting party in our book! we are psyched. A sign may be in order ("Ask us how you can really save turkeys" or something like that.) Will be in touch and so glad you can hang with us!
