Well it was a dizzyingly busy summer and so we are looking forward to making some winter meetups happen.
I am therefore trying to organize a hang at Two Boots in Red Hook for next Friday. It is a bit tricky as I need to let them know how many are coming in advance so they can accommodate us - - so definitely hit the button and rsvp for this one.
As many of you know, Two Boots is the famous "cajun italian" pizza chain (but a relatively small, non-corporate art-and-film-fan-owned-and-operated chain). They jumped on the vegan pizza bus very early on with their famous slice, "The Earth Mother" in NYC but for their upstate location and increasingly at others, you can now get Daiya on all their slices and veganize many of their pies. They only have one salad but it is a hefty great one. I thought it would be fun to all meet there and the wonderful thing is they have a cute glittery stage with music acts a few nights a week also.
The meetup is scheduled for 8pm - - it probably will have to be that you rsvp here and upon arrival, grab a table, first-come first-served, or sit at the bar to eat and drink (I am trying to arrange it that we get a "section" reserved based on the number of rsvp's.) You'll be able to order on your own (we won't be ordering for the group) - i.e. you can get individual small pies or if you and a few of the posse can all agree on what you want on your pie, I guess new unions can form and people can collaborate! (menu info at: http://bard.twoboots.com/ )
Music starts usually at 9:30 so it will be perfect to kick back and enjoy some tunes afterwards. I will have to update this page with info about that, what artists are playing, etc. There MIGHT be a small cover charge if you stay for the music or at the very least we'll pass a hat around - again, I will update about this.
Let us know if you can make it! We'll have cruelty-free fun and show the world there is a vegan economy, at the same time!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because there are a lot of folks in this group who work doing farm animal rescue and advocacy, and who spend each day trying to save our dairy cow friends and such, this really is a "vegan pizza posse" hang and our aim is to support the vegan aspect of the restaurant, and show our gratitude for the fact that they have great offerings for the vegan community. If you rsvp to join with us (and we hope you will) and are new to the vegan world and just veg-curious, we welcome you! But please only order vegan pizza while hanging with our group and give it a try if you haven't before! You will not be disappointed, as the pizza there is pretty special... cornmeal crust and little spicy kick to the sauce, and amazing toppings like red pepper and basil pestos, shitake mushrooms and artichokes...I promise, you shall be satiated. THANKS!
