FishEating Creek Camp / Canoe Weekend Getaway

There are few things more fun and epic than a weekend camping trip with the AA crew and it's about darn time for our next get-together!!

First-time campers, this is a great way to start and is SUPER-easy because we get to set up camp once on Friday and stay put for the whole weekend - See the bottom of this post for suggestions on what to bring (list stolen from Corey - Thanks, man!!). I'm still in contact with the campground, so I'll post up any additional information as I get it.

WHERE:

  FishEating Creek Outpost

7555 US Highway 27 North, Palmdale, Florida 33944

WHEN:

  Friday March 21st - Sunday March 23rd

We've got two large, adjoining waterfront campsites booked for the weekend - An initial guess at a rough itinerary would be:

ROUGH ITINERARY:

  Friday night:

Arrive at campsite, set up tents and chill by a campfire.

  Saturday:

Wake up, make some breakfast / coffee.

Go to the lake on the facility - There's a rope-swing and kayaking / canoe possibilities. Also, we can rent canoes and chill on the creek itself too!!

Arrive back at camp, shower, prepare some food and chill for the night by another campfire.

  Sunday:

Wake up, breakfast / coffee, take down tents, chill and head back down to Miami.

COSTS:

   Campsite:

+/-$100 per night split between the group (depending on the final number of people).

ASSUMED TOTAL EXPENSE = $10 per person for the weekend.

Please paypal me the money to [masked] and include your name in the notes of the payment so I can keep track!

All money received will be paid towards the camping, if there's any left over, I'll use it to purchase group-needs such as firewood, etc.

If you reserve and need a refund - No problem, but do reserve your spot so I know who's serious about coming.

For first-timers, some suggestions on what will probably be good to bring (feel free to reach out if you have any questions):

 Sleeping bag

Tent (sharing is always a good idea here!)

 Food

 Bathing suit

 Towel

 Flip-flops

 Flashlight / Headlamp

 Sun glasses

 Sun block

 Bug spray

 Cooler

 Food (simple or complicated)

 Drinking water

Sweater / fleece (it could be cool at night)

Rain jacket / Poncho (not essential, but you never know)

Other points:

 - There are also hikes, a gator-farm and a few other things to do around there, so there will be other options available if you want.

- A group of our Acro-yoga friends are also going to be there that weekend, so maybe meet up and chill with them some, try out our luck with some Acro and get to meet some new peeps!

Hey guys, I seem to have lost my Leatherman knife on the camping trip. :( If anyone found it, I'd appreciate it back. It says "Leatherman Supertool" on the side. Thanks!

Just to continue Edleen's sentiments, I wanted to thank some of my favorite people in this entire solar-system for such an amazing weekend - Truly LOVED getting to spend some quality time with ya'all and can't wait to do it again!!

Any initial impressions of the place? Is it worth us bringing or bikes?

    March 21, 2014

    • Javetta

I say bring them anyway. A few people brought their bikes. You never know what we might or decide to do.

Hey all, gonna be leaving here at about 4ish and, given traffic, should be there at the 7:30-8ish mark.... In case you arrive before me, check in at the office and say you're with my group - Our campsites are Hike-In 1&2 and I already dealt with them re: payment, so you shouldn't be charged anything. If you have any issues, just gimme a call at (305) 527-7745.... THIS IS GONNA ROCK!!!! See ya'all later!

    March 21, 2014

    • Javetta

I won't be there until about 7:30-8:00pm. I know it's late but it's the end of the quarter at my job and can't take any extra time off. But will be there.

      I got a small one

I have a propane grill that I'll share. I don't have a grill that will fit on top of a fire pit.

Hey everyone! I'll be camping with the acro folks, but if anyone is looking to carpool I'll be leaving ft. Lauderdale around 4 on friday. I have room for one comfortably, or 2 not as comfortably (provided you don't have too much stuff ).

    1 · March 19, 2014

    • Julio M.

Hi Melissa I'm actually looking to carpool. Where in ft Lauderdale are you?

      March 21, 2014

    • Julio M.

Could you please call or text me to[masked] 9839. I work in ft. Lauderdale so I'm close but I need to let my boss know as soon as possible if I'll be leaving early. Thank you

Hey everyone, I'll be there camping with the acroyogis, but looking forward to hanging out with you guys too! When you get there let me know where your campsite is so I can swing by. Vic and I are leaving Miami around 4 today.

Can't wait!!! See everyone tomorrow or Saturday!!!

    2 · March 20, 2014

  • Tameem

Quick note, if you see fire wood while gathering supplies at publix/target/walmart home depot etc., please pick up a few logs. We always seem to run into the issue of relying on stores closer to the camp grounds only to find they are out of stock.

    1 · March 19, 2014

    • Ori G

Good point and we should still pick some up, BUT they also sell firewood at the campground store itself too!!

      March 19, 2014

  • Rob

Oli and I will probably leave Miami about 3pm on Saturday. If anyone wants to carpool, give us a shout.

    March 19, 2014

Just checking, man, Saturday or Friday??

      March 19, 2014

    Hi Everyone.
Thanks to Tony for pointing it out, but the address link for this meetup can point to a position somewhere in Georgia... If you get that, please have a look at their directions link:
    http://www.fisheatingcreekoutpost.com/showpage.asp?page=directions
Where they post the correct location and directions. OR also use this link with the specific GPS coordinates:

Three questions, in order of importance:
    1) Does someone have the equipment to make coffee in the morning, and if so, who are you and can I be your friend?
    2) What time should we get there on Friday?
    3) Bikes?

    1 · March 16, 2014

    • Veronica

Corey and I always make coffee so no worries we will bring that :)

      3 · March 17, 2014

    • Melinda

      thanks - we'll bring coffee fixins :)

      March 18, 2014

  • Olaydis

Hi Adrian, thank you for offering dinner :). I have one question, how spicy are you going to make the chili?

    March 18, 2014

    • Adrian

Not spicy. I don't think anyone will find it too hot.

      March 18, 2014

    • Olaydis

Ok then count me in! :)

Ori, the map link and even the written address on Google maps takes you to north Georgia, lol!! Might want to fix that, it's happened before that peeps blindly follow the GPS link on their phones :-p

    March 18, 2014

    • Ori G

That's weird, I just tried it again and it gave me the correct directions....

      March 18, 2014

  • Adrian

Questions: Are we camping in the same location on Friday and Saturday nights, or are we going to have to break down our gear and move it? Also, what's the restroom situation like? Flushing toilets? Showers? Hot showers????

    March 17, 2014

    • Ori G

Adrian, they've got full shower and bathroom facilities available on the campground together with a camp store to pick up anything we might need - including firewood.

      1 · March 18, 2014

    • Ori G

As far as camping location goes, we're on the same spot for both nights, so we set up Friday night and just take down on Sunday before heading home.

      1 · March 18, 2014

  • Adrian

Ok, I'm revising down the costs for chili (with beef and beans) to $5 per person. So far, I have Edleen and Javetta as "confirmed" and Ben is a "maybe". Let me know soon, folks.

    2 · March 16, 2014

    • Rob

Count me in for chili please!

      March 18, 2014

    • Olaydis

Hi Adrian, thank you for offering dinner for Saturday. I have 1 question, how spicy are you going to make the chili?

      March 18, 2014

  • Dan

Grr, something has come up and unfortunately I have to cancel. I'm sorry I'm going to be missing this.

    March 17, 2014

    • Ori G

Sorry to hear that, Dan... The cool thing is that this is just the beginning of summer, so I have no doubt thag there's more to come!!

      1 · March 17, 2014

  • Javetta

I'm going to bring marshmallows. So we can make s'mores. What's camping w/o it?

    2 · March 17, 2014

  • Dan

Just paid up Ori. I'm also going to be leaving earlier on Friday, probably around 1 or 2, since I drive slow if anyone wants to convoy or carpool. I will have one seat. Also, is anyone bringing bikes and a grill?

    1 · March 16, 2014

  • Edleen

    Who is interested in carpooling?

    March 16, 2014

  • Adrian

For Saturday night, I'm planning on making chili ahead of time and heating it up that night. I can make more chili for other people if anyone wants to trade for some breakfast on Sunday morning, or if anyone wants to chip in some for the costs - I'm estimating $7 per person. That's for chili with ground beef and beans, shredded cheese, and fritos (for frito pie). Reply to this thread if you're interested in either option, but let me know soon.

    1 · March 15, 2014

    • Javetta

I would like some too please. But I want it for free. Jk. I'll pay the mula for some. Thank you.

      March 15, 2014

    • Benjamin M.

I am interested. I think I might try to make omlets in bags for breakfast.

      March 15, 2014

  • Ori G

Hey All!! - One more week till we've got us some camping and creek-chilling time!!!

I called up the campgrounds today and, unfortunately, they said the water levels are still too low for the longer canoe trip - HOWEVER, as I said in the event post, they will still have canoes and kayaks available for rent and the lake with the rope-swing, etc. is still a great possibility!!

For those that have PayPalled me the money, I'm going to issue you a refund for $35 and keep $10 per person for the campground fee... For those of you that haven't PayPalled the money yet... GREAT NEWS!!!... The whole weekend will only cost you 10 bucks!! :p

REALLY looking forward to this getaway and I'll post up some more info during the week.

Have a great one, peeps, and see you next Friday!!!

    2 · March 13, 2014

  • Adrian

I just paid up for me and Juana. Don't forget to pay, people, so that Ori can make the reservations. Send $45 per person to [masked] via Paypal.
