Apart from those registered to attend already, Apix have their own database of people attending - so book asap to secure your place as I have been assured by Suzie that they are close to being fully subscribed for this event.

Why are these nights divided by sex? My husband and I are both photographers and are both potentially interested - so why do we need to attend on different nights?

I must say I agree with James. I was concerned when i first read a post left on the Lads event but after reading each comment here thoroughly I believe Anil and Suzie's comments were taken largely out of context. I don't feel there is a sexist basis towards this and they never mentioned it being "unSAFE". The best bet is to leave things open to both men and women in the future.

Hi Jacqueline. Thank you for registering for this event. You should be able to set up a notification via your profile setting under 'Email and notifications' to remind you of up coming events. Hope this helps.

This comment is addressed to Michael - I would have appreciated a private message to give me and Apix the opportunity to discuss this matter, however you have made this public and I will respond in the same manner.

To Members: To clarify and put things in to perspective:

Apix initially set up a Nikon sponsored ladies evening as a result of some of their women customers feeling intimidated when in a mixed and usually male dominated forum. The idea behind this was to allow ladies to be more part of the photography discussion and workshops with other ladies. This was an initial trial run and was hugely successful and well received by those who attended. These ladies felt SAFE in this environment and able to PARTICIPATE without fear of ridicule due to any perceived lack of knowledge or otherwise. They were able to network with other ladies and share experiences and knowledge with other Nikon users. Continued in next comment...

Following the success of that meeting, I was asked to present and take part in a second Nikon Ladies evening. I suggested to Apix that I post the event on Meetup to allow a wider audience of women Nikon users to participate. Due to the success of that particular Meetup Apix are now rolling out future photography programs of which the Canon Lads, Canon Ladies, Nikon Lads are part of. In the New Year there are plans for non gender and non brand specific seminars and workshops to be held. Continued in next comment...

If any one wants to attend any of the seminars regardless of gender or brand bias then they are most welcome to do so.

Apix has worked extremely hard in getting sponsorship giving them the opportunity to bring to the public, particularly to novices and enthusiastic amateurs, events such as this. These events are FREE and due to lack of space in their showroom limited to 15-20 people. Apix therefore have had to run several seminars such as this to cater for the demand. Apix staff provide their time FREE as these events are after hours. They provide complimentary drinks and nibbles. They provide spot prizes sponsored by manufactures of various products. They provide unbiased advise to anyone passionate to learn more and get the best out of their individual photography needs. Continued in next comment...

I am not Apix staff and yet I am passionate enough to help them deliver opportunities to a wider photography audience wanting to learn and know more. Further I am working with them on future projects with Auckland Photography Festival exhibitions in 2013 that will require participation from members of photography groups such as Auckland Photography and Shutterbug. Apix possibly allowing exhibition space for Meetup members in their showrooms to exhibit their work for free.

There is a rationale and a bigger picture to be considered with regard to these specific events and future events in the making. If you feel that our actions are insincere then you are welcome to terminate the events already posted.

As you will see there is already support from members wanting to attend the seminars already posted - so some of the members have already spoken in a sense. I will leave it to you (Michael) and the members to decide the fate of the posted events and future event.

Anil, All our events are NOT to be gender biased. I have recieved complaints & has also resulted in a member leaving the group.

Any further gender (or otherwise) biased Meet Ups will be removed.
