Discuss the fact-based evidence behind the metabolic syndrome epidemic

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • The current medical and health establishment have been ignoring the increasing number of clues that are pointing to the fact that the model they have been using to explain the metabolic syndrome is dead (pun intended) wrong. Let's put one of the sacred cow of the current dogma, e.g. saturated fat is bad for you, under the microscope and see what's left on the table shall we?

Does anyone know if there are physicians in NZ who recommend low carbohydrate diets for people who are obese? The only doctors I know of in NZ with an interest in bariatrics are surgeons who perform bariatric surgery such as gastric bypass surgery. I know there are physicians in America who specialize in bariatrics and non surgical treatment of obesity.

I shouldn't generalize, I don't know most physicians. I do know many physicians though.I should say all the doctors I have known or consulted in my lifetime have been very anti low carb diet's.

Is there anyone out there who would be interested in sharing/discussing the evidence against the official 911 story?

I too feel much better healthwise by not eating carbs and have lost weight (though that wasn't the aim). My blood pressure and cholesterol levels have settled to safer and normal levels but my GP still believes the LCHF diet has no effect. I don't miss carbs or sugar and have plenty of energy from the fats I eat. HOWEVER, what are we to be skeptical of - this diet or the medics' stance on it?

  • Adam G.

I have been on a LCHF diet for a few months now and have lost 12 kilos (approx.). I'm feeling a lot better for it, and find I do not get hungry often. Meat and veg (excluding potato), what's not to like? I am taking a multivit each day, as I'm not sure how balanced my diet is. I find that I am drinking more water than before. I am also taking more salt: I seem to need it.

I'm convinced there is something in it. Two very good advocates are science reporter Gary Taubes see youtube SpecialtyHealth
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRoxvI1p1Bc
    and
Cardiologist Donald Miller - "Enjoy eating saturated fats They're good for you"

There are many other good talks on youtube.
My own health professionals - bless them - gave me the look of disgust and disbelief when I tried to discuss it. Wrote me off as a looney - so I think their orthodoxy stifles any advancement of knowledge. I met a Swede this week who told me of the whole story there. It is having an effect in that country despite officialdom suing doctors (and losing) who promoted HFLC.

Sugar shouldn't be described as a food as it supplies no nutrients. It could more accurately be described as a toxin since everything it contains is bad for you. The link below discusses 10 dangers of sugar -

Yes I will attend if I can. I think this issue is very important and am surprised by how few people are interested in it. I have done a lot of reading on this subject and find the arguments compelling and the science behind the arguments sound.
