This was forwarded to me by RC Johnson, who's organizing the Random Hacks of Kindness event in Austin this year. It would be totally cool to get a bunch of female devs involved and help out some charitable organizations!
______The first ever Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) event here in Austin is coming in December to coincide with RHoK #4, and we would like to invite you to participate. RHoK (http://www.rhok.org) is a global hackathon for social good founded by The World Bank, NASA, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo!. Twice a year, programmers, designers, and managers across the world team up with subject matter experts to develop open source technology that addresses societal or global problems. Solutions from past RHoK events include an open-source disaster management system used in the Haiti earthquake relief efforts, a web platform to make water and environmental data publicly accessible, and much, much more. RHoK Austin (http://www.rhok.org/event/austin-tx-usa) will be held December 3rd-4th at the Captial City Event Center, with an opening reception the night before as well. You can sign up via the EventBrite page (http://rhokaustin.eventbrite.com/). If you have any questions, you can contact RC Johnson (@rcjohnson, or via email)
