2013-06-26_19.21.13 L-R: Kassandra, Simi, Alex, Jess, Angelina, Garann at dev career plateau discussion about qualifications that separate junior and senior developers, what is the ultimate tech job, etc.
This is an informal group of female developers in Austin, representing a wide variety of languages, backgrounds, and niches. We meet once a month or so to share information, do some coding, and hang out and talk. Bringing your laptop, your vexing technical problems, and your expertise is highly encouraged! We've had some members volunteer to give short presentations on various technologies, and we've also been lucky enough to have awesome sponsors who've provided beer, wine, and snacks. This is still a relatively new group, so if you have ideas for its future direction, you're definitely invited to help shape it!
You should join if A) you're a woman, B) you like writing code in any language, and C) you think a change of scenery might be kind of fun.
NOTE: Men and non-developers, such as recruiters or marketers, can only attend our meetings by invitation. To be invited, you can sponsor a meeting. This would involve providing food and drinks, and would give you an opportunity to make a presentation about yourself, your company, product, or services. We are always looking for sponsors! But please don't assume that you can come uninvited, i.e. don't just RSVP "Yes" to a meeting.
By the way, we have a generous definition of what a developer is. As long as you are learning programming, or are interested in learning it, you are a developer for our purposes, no matter what your current profession is. Please come to learn/talk about software development, just don't come with an explicit purpose of recruiting or pitching your product (for that you need an invitation).
