Are (1) a current house concert host, (2) interested in hosting a house concert, (3) interested in attending a house concert, (4) a musician who wants to play at a house concert, or (4) a combination of the prior?

1 and 3. We are current house concert hosts...now in our fourth year of hosting monthly concerts (September thru May). We generally feature singer-songwriters in the folk/Americana tradition and book a mixture of talented local acts and touring acts. Some of our previously booked acts include: Butch Hancock, Terri Hendrix, Guy Forsyth, Brother Sun, George Ensle, Aengus Finnan, Jack Williams, Sam Baker, Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkins, BettySoo, Shake Russell, Steve Seskin, Susan Gibson, Anne Hills, Michael Smith, and Joe Crookston. For[masked], among others we've booked Valdy, Brother Sun, Small Potatoes, Mike Blakely, Claudia Nygaard, The Studabakers, Adam Carroll, and Amanda Pearcy, We also regularly attend other house concerts in the Austin area and, whenever, I ALWAYS look to see if there just might be a house concert happening where-ever I'm going to be. Have wound up attending house concerts and making new friends from N.C. to Maine to California.

What musicians have you heard at a house concert, or would like to hear?

I've been attending house concerts regularly for almost 30 years...probably go to at least two dozen per year... so trying to list who I've heard would be impossible.

What do you like about house concerts, or what interests you in house concerts

Love being able to actually LISTEN to music without the typical bar/restaurant distractions (i.e., - the drunken idiot at the next table who is LOUDLY trying to impress his date; the whirr and hiss of a cappuccino machine going off right in the middle of a song; etc.) I love hearing music undistorted by amplification in a room small enough and so quiet that you can hear every word that is sung even from the back row. I love that the performers can actually see and interact with the audience. The "connection" between performer and audience members generates incredible energy that simply does not happen when the audience is in a darkened room and the musician has stage lights in his/her eyes so really, cannot KNOW if the house is full or he is playing to empty seats. But, most of all, I LOVE the fact that house concerts help to build (rebuild?) a "sense of community" that is so difficult to achieve in our otherwise busy, modern lives.

Introduction

Hi - We host house concerts about once a month. Our home is located about 15 minutes east of the Austin airport...just off Hwy 71. Concerts are held on Sunday afternoons, are totally acoustic (no amps). More info at www(dot)arhaven(dot)org
