Yahoo Groups certainly doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Meetup, but it is free. I've never used eVite, but I think it's free too. Using Yahoo Groups for communication and eVite for meeting scheduling might give us all the functionality of Meetup at no cost. I suggest this alternative because I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one for whom money is an issue.

Hello members of Austic Chronic Pain Meetup: I want you all to know that we will be having our January meeting as scheduled. Prior to that, you may be receiving a notice from Meetup.com that the group is seeking a new organizer. This is primarily due to the cost of running the meetup group which I have been absorbing until now. It isn't such a large sum ($144 annually), but the attendance at our sessions have been consistently 4 and fewer. It just so happens that the January meeting has 7 members scheduled, so that may indicate an increased demand for our group. If that is so, and we can all share a little in the cost of running the group, I will gladly stay on as organizer. If not, someone else may step up as organizer or the group may have to dissolve.
SO, BY ALL MEANS COME TO THE MEETING AND WE CAN DISCUSS HOW TO KEEP THIS VERY IMPORTANT GROUP ALIVE AND WELL TO SERVE THOSE OF US COPING WITH CHRONIC PAIN IN OUR LIVES......I hope this finds you all well..........see you on the 9th of January as scheduled!........Art
