A Special English Country Dance with Ladies at Play

It's fun, it's elegant, it's easy to learn--it's English Country dancing!

And this month we're thrilled to have Ladies at Play providing the music as part of an Austin Mini Dance Weekend!

If you've enjoyed contra dancing, you should have a lot of fun with this style. It's not as vigorous as a contra dance, but some of the dances can move quite quickly. The music and the dances emphasize a playful yet elegant dance style, and our dancers end up flirting and laughing all night long. One or more of Austin's dance callers will first teach each dance by walking it through, then will call the dance to guide participants successfully through. Each English dance has its own unique melody to accompany it, and our group uses recordings from the world's finest English country dance bands for our accompaniment. On occasion, we dance to live music. No costume is required, but please wear soft-soled shoes. You don't have to bring a partner, but if you've got friends who might enjoy the dance, please bring them along! We usually have 20-30 regular dancers attending, so first-timers will have lots of folks to help them through, and leave feeling successful! Light refreshments will be served. The dance ends at 10:30.

General Admission is $10 (Students pay $5).

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
