The Real Ale Ride

This is HANDS DOWN THE BEST sponsored ride of the year!  I'm so bummed I'll be out of town this year for The Read Ale.  But don't miss Torsten and your other ACM buddies at this ride.  We had FIFTY riders from Austin Cycling Meetup last year!

UP THE HILLS, DOWN THE BEERS

One of Bicycle Sport Shop’s most popular annual events (and the biggest ride in the Bicycle Sport Shop Signature Cycling Series) rolls through the scenic hills of Blanco, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, on May 21. It’s a ride for all levels of cyclists, with distances of 15, 30, 50, 65 and 80 miles. Routes are fully supported and all end at Blanco’s Real Ale brewery for a spirited celebration with local beer and food.

Thanks Carol, the food was definitely a disappointment. We heard that from everyone we talked to.

    The food was just horrible.

Tim & Dennis- I'm happy to take that post-party food feedback back to the ride directors!

This is a fun ride. The 65 mile option is hillier than the 85 mile option.

I have to get the pictures off my camera yet. However, we spent so much time posing for pictures, I don't think we got that many of ourselves. So it would be fun to see them.

Email me some of those pictures! I didnt get a single pic of myself the whole time!

Oh yeah, and a big shout out to Steve and his friend for dressing up and riding in some awesome costumes! Ken has some pics maybe we can put up on here.

Hey Dennis, I too missed the BBQ from past years. Ken and I both jumped in the Blanco after the ride and before the after party. It was cool and refreshing and I'll definitely do that again. I hit 48mph on that big downhill you are talking about!

The 1st few years of the ride, the post ride food was BBQ. So, that was a bit of a downer. However, it was a fun ride with some good climbs and a great drop (if you did the 30 or 50 mile routes). For those that didn't, I would plan some extra time for a dip in the Blanco River afterwards as well. :)

Great Ride! This was my first ride ( did the 50 mile), and I am so addicted now! Looking forward to getting more involved in this group for more rides.

Thanks, Perry! It was a great day! We had some terrific folks out there! I will pass this along to them and race management, too!

Lots of rough chip seal roads and sparse food at the after party were the only real negatives.

Awesome support on this ride Carol! I did the 65 mile route and it had the perfect # of rest stops, right where I needed them most. All were well stocked with anything a rider could want. Thanks for all you did!

Look for Ken and I wearing our Lake Travis Cycling jerseys and come and say HI. We'll be doing the 50mi. We won't have our sign up since we'll not be parking near the start.

I'm the volunteer coordinator for the ride and we can always use more volunteers! If you aren't in a hilly mood, hang out at a rest stop or help me at the venue! http://realaleride.com/volunteer/
