Welcome to Austin Cycling Meetup, your friendly neighborhood "low key" recreational cycling group!
Austin Cycling Meetup group is not a hard core anything. We're a little bit road warriors, a little bit social cyclists, and a whole lot community builders. We all just love riding our bikes and want friends to ride with.
Most of our regular calendar meetups are South Austin/Westlake/Bee Cave/Lakeway routes. And due to the desire for variety and the members that have joined us we also venture to Dripping Springs, Parmer Road, Pflugerville and the surrounding hill country for charity rides. So we're kind of all over Austin!
If you're nervous about riding because you just learned where to place your feet on the pedals, no worries. Most of our rides are no drop and we're happy to have an excuse to stop and chat at the top of that hill waiting on the others. Chances are next time around it will be one of us.
And equally true that if you want to kick it, we have century riders that will ride out front with you or add some extra miles/hills with you. We're really all about the fun, building our skills and the chance to stay fit. We truly have all levels of riders.
BEFORE YOU JOIN A RIDE: please take a moment to read the road safety rules of our club. Helmets required, no headphones or boomboxes please, be hyper-aware of vehicle traffic, obey traffic laws and be prepared to yield. If you pass another cyclist, "On your left/right!" We follow Austin Cycling Association protocols. If you're not sure about your ride level, please read this description of our ride levels before you join us. If you want to post a ride please let me know. The only requirement is that standard safety rules are followed: Helmets required, no headphones or boomboxes please, be hyper-aware of vehicle traffic, obey traffic laws and be prepared to yield. If you pass another cyclist, "On your left/right!" Any responsible cyclist can become a ride leader and we would like to see Bike Austin and other local organizations post their rides here.
Please help us by respecting the RSVP process. We will miss you if there is a change of plans and you can not attend. Please cancel and we hope to see you next week!
Mountain bikers that prefer trail rides, please meander over the Austin Mountain Biking Meetup and join Ken Sinclair's group. We regularly welcome mountain bikers on our road rides and social rides, but no longer host trail rides since our member Ken is doing such a bang up job there.
