Let's first make a effort to join before doing anything with a larger statement. When is their meeting next? I couldn't find it on the site.

Well, I said the exact same thing to the founder of the Drupal.org group this morning.  He said if we are truly dedicated to Drupal then we wouldn't consider having our group presence on Meetup.com (which I thought was a bit dramatic).  He said if we don't like something about the UI over there then we should donate our time to fix it.

Seems sort of unnecessary to me since the Meetup UI is so easy.  I've actually enjoyed the experience and found that I was looking forward to leading the group.  My concern is that some of the members who had joined the group only did so to find out what the group was up to - sort of "spy's" from the Drupal.org group.  (Are we in Sixth Grade or Seventh now?  :)

I really want to have a strong group, and I'm a bit concerned about stepping on toes of Austin Drupal developers by trying to start a new group at Meetup without the blessing of the .org group, which we're clearly not going to get.  I suggested the same thing - that we use both.  Crickets chirping was all I heard.  :)

I agree.
MeetUp is how I found the group and I think it's an easy way to stay connected.
Is it possible to just combine the groups and have the meetings posted on MeetUp but discussions on drupal.org?

Thanks,
Shana

Terry,

I very new to drupal and wish to network in my area. I use meetup.com for other groups, so that is where I found about this first. I just join the Austin drupal group on groups.drupal.org but can't find when meetings will be happening. Maybe you had more luck!? I definitely want to network with other drupal users.

I wish someone from the existing Austin DUG had mentioned the group over at Drupal.org as soon as they noticed my efforts here and extended an invitation.

My intent was certainly not to divide and conquer. I am closing this group and joining the already established group there. I am happy it exists and look forward to becoming part of that community! Even though I'm a new member there I'd like to extend an invitation to everyone here - let's go!
