For the Connoisseurs and "Wannabes" Among Us

Hey, Friends,

Our beloved founder Marla (aka "Yummy Goodness") recently named Derek and me co-organizers of Austin Food and Wine Lovers.  Since my modest expertise falls with the latter, I've been asked to help ratchet up the understanding of all things wine.  So here's my first volley and strong recommendation in that pursuit.

Starting at 4 p.m. next Saturday, Aug. 25, the Lake Travis Wine Trader is offering one of its periodic tastings called Big Winos.  The cost is $85 and you must RSVP by calling the wine bar [masked]).  Don't delay as this event will sell out quickly (only 36 seats).  We will be tasting six 92-96 point wines, not to mention some the collectible juice brought to the event by local connoisseurs from their private cellars.  Don't forget to bring your finest to share, too!

The Wine Trader is located at the intersection of RR 620 and Lohman's Crossing, in the shopping center right behind the Wendy's in Lakeway.  It offers the finest of fine wines of any wine bar I've found in the Austin area.  THIS WILL BE AN AMAZING TASTING! Here's what we'll be drinking (all of these bottles are $100+):

  • Billecarte-Salmon Nicolas Francois Billecart Brut Champagne 2000 (94 pts. Wine Advocate (WA))
  • Domaine de la Solitude Chateauneuf du Pape la Reserve Secrete 2007 (95 pts. WA-Parker)
  • Antinori Tignanello Vino da Tavola Toscana 2009 (94 pts. WA-Galloni)
  • Behrens and Hitchcock Cemetery 2009 (96 pts. WA)
  • Kristine Ashe Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Nous Estate (92 pts. WA)
  • Gallica Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2009 (95+ pts. WA)

Don't forget to RSVP by calling the Wine Trader at [masked]-9798.  Let me know you're going by hitting "Reply" and I'll see you there.

Cheers always,

Michael Russell
