8 mile Hike at Brushy Creek Lake Park

  • Apr 13, 2013 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a brisk 8 mile hike at the beautiful urban Brushy Creek Lake Park.

Miles of hike and bike trails, restrooms, 90 acres of parkland and a scenic 38 acre lake make this a great place to hike, bike and paddle especially during this spring weather.

Bring plenty of water, at least one litre,  snacks, a hat, sunscreen and  wear comfortable, sturdy  shoes to enjoy this long hike.

Join us for lunch afterward.

Directions: From Mopac, travel west on Parmer Lane.  Cross over  Ranch Road  620.  Continue to head west on Parmer Lane and turn RIGHT on Brushy Creek Road.  Travel only 200 feet on Brushy Creek Road and turn RIGHT into the park at the first entrance which is not well marked.  Meet by the bathrooms.

Please be considerate.  If you RSVP, please attend.   Attendance will be tracked.

To help us cover our Austin Sierra Club expenses, we will be collecting small donations at meetup time prior to departure.  Check out our website:

We invite you to join us in exploring, enjoying, and protecting the planet by becoming an official Sierra Club member!

Yes, a killdeer! Thanks, everyone, for helping me identify it. Great hike!

Great hike Linda! Enjoyed the company, great weather, and tons of bluebonnets. This hike had a lot of variety and interesting things to see. Loved learning about all the history behind the parks and trails too. BTW, what's up with bugs bunny at the historic cemetary??

    Great place, great company.
According to my guide, the birds in the pasture were killdeer. They were a treat to see.

Sounds great! What is the estimated length of time for the hike? What kind of terrain again, please?
    Thanks, Marilee

I would estimate 3 - 3 1/2 hours. This is an urban park with gravel trails and some shorter cement trails.

Hi Lida. I also live in south Austin near William cannon & 35. I'd definitely be interested in carpooling.
