Metro Rail to downtown for an evening hike and dinner

We'll meet at the Howard Lane Metro Rail park and ride in north Austin to ride the metro rail to downtown Austin for an evening of fun and food.  For those of you who live in Cedar Park area, you may want to board the train at the Lakeline Metro Rail park and ride.  The Metro Rail leaves at 4:27 pm from the Howard Lane Metro Rail for downtown.

Other folks are welcome to join us along the way.  Cost for metro rail varies at different stops.  Arrive in time to purchase your train tickets.

Our south Austin folks are welcome to meet us at the downtown MetroRail station at 401 E. 4th street at 4:45 pm.  We should return to the Howard Lane station around 10:00 pm.

We will plan to hike from the downtown Metro Rail station where we will cross Lady Bird and hike for an hour or so before stopping to eat at a local restaurant.

This is a conditioning hike so we'll hike at a moderate pace, wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes.  A small donation is appreciated to help with club expenses.

Martha is co-leader.

My sincere apologies for being a no-show on my first event. I have just returned from Peru and don't have Internet at home yet. I did not know that a spot had opened up. Hope to meet you all at a future activity. Shannon

Sorry, I was looking forward to meeting you guys at the end of the railway line but my allergies are killing me today.

This is a rain or shine outing. If it rains, we'll stay north of the river but you will need to wear a rain jacket because you might get wet.

How much is the fare and is there enough parking space?

One question - are there multiple stops downtown? At which stop are you planning to get off the train? (I've only taken it once since moving to Austin)

We will ride the train all the way to the downtown terminus / end of the line at the Convention Center. Just follow the Sierra Clubbers. They will be wearing Birkenstocks :)

Thanks Rick. I'll be on the lookout for those Birkies :-)

The train does leave the Howard Lane station at 4:27 pm. We will stay on the train until the 'end of the line' at 4th and Trinity. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as we will be hiking over bridges and along the Lady Bird Lake trails on our way to our dinner destination. I'd guess the hike length is about 2 miles each way for a total of about 4 miles.

I'll catch the train at the Kramer Station and meet up with you downtown if I don't see you before that.

I'll catch the train at McNeil.

I won't be able to go after all. Replace me with someone on the waiting list.
