Longview Park and Stephenson Preserve Hike

The hike consists of 3 miles over varied terrain consisting of mostly flat trails and two ridges. There are remains of rock walls used by the original owners to segregate their land between farming and live stock. The remains of stock tanks, wells, and other aspects of the original farm remain – including the family cemetery. The geology of the hike exposes three layers of strata that include remains of a fresh water shoreline from thousands of years ago. It’s possible to see deer, foxes, rabbits, owls, and other animals. Dogs are not allowed in the preserve. The Sierra Club appreciates a small donation to help with our conservation and outreach programs. <Please be considerate - if you RSVP Yes, then attend.  We will have a chat with persons who abuse the RSVP process.>

Thanks so much James! Very informative and fun place to walk. Way too hot, but no control over that.

I guess I'm gonna drop out too. It is hot, and if there is no coverage anywhere, it will be way too brutal. No heat-stroke for me, thanks. ;)

I'm wondering how many others are going to cancel? I'm new, so are there no trees or coverings for us along the trail to keep cool(er). I do see that's is going to still be 102 degrees at 7 p.m.

Hello everyone. I am the recent owner of a guest cottage in Smithville, Texas. It's a great place for hiking, walking, shopping, relaxing or great food. I would like to offer a 10% discount to Sierra Club members. All you need to do is go to VBRO, Smithville Cottage and make reference to 1042. This offer is good until the end of the year. Grab your bike, canoe, kayak, great book and that special person you want to spend time with. The cottage is two bedrooms/two baths, 1930's House in the historic district. Check it out at www.smithvillecottage.com. Thank you!
