For those planning to go to Big Bend, and hike the more strenuous trails such as the South Rim, there is no better training in Austin than the Hill of Life. The hike gains more than 300 feet in less than half a mile, over a steep rough trail littered with loose sand and rocks.
The plan is to do 5 loops, for a total of 5 miles and 1500 vertical feet. This will be fast paced-- 25 to 30 minutes/loop. Since this is not technically a guided hike, individuals can set their own pace.
Since we are planning to break a sweat, bring plenty of water and snacks!
