Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

THIS EVENT WILL BE FULL at 25

Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Noon. Guided tour of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The Center is free during the month of January and is open noon to 5 pm on Sundays. The Store (winter sale weekend) and the Wildflower Café are open from noon to 4 pm. We’ll learn about the history of the Center, its architectural design and research projects, and peak at the new family garden now under construction. We’ll also take a brisk 1.7 mile hike through the Arboretum, which opened last May in honor of Mrs. Johnson’s 100th birthday. Check out wildflower.org for more info about the Center. (If there is rain or if temperature at 10 am is below freezing, we’ll postpone until a later date.) Children welcome with supervision. RSVP to trip leader Phoebe Allen for confirmation <[masked]>. Limit: 25. A $5 donation to the Sierra Club is suggested for this trip. Wildflower Center Donations/Memberships are always welcomed.

Although it was quite cold ( at least for me , not Zen!) we had a great time and thank Phoebe for her insight and knowledge.

Thank you, Phoebe - for all the great info and your work at the Wildflower Center. The side stories like about the owl made it even more interesting!

Phoebe - Are you maintaining a waiting list? If so, can you add me to it please? I'd love to join you but didn't think I'd be able to until today.

    January 1, 2014

    • Phoebe A.

I have not been keeping a waiting list because so many signed up beyond the 25 limit. But check back in tomorrow to see if more have dropped out. There are usually a number who don't show up, so you could come as long as you're prepared to go off on your own if there is a crowd.

    Hi, everyone!

I'm new to Austin . . . and also carless. When I mapped out the bus route to the Wildflower Center yesterday, I saw that that it would take about 2 hours from where I'm located to get there. Here's my question. I live in Riverside, at the corner of Wickersham and Oltorf. Is there anyone from that area who's planning on going and wouldn't mind giving me a ride to/from?

If not, that's fine. I can wait for an event that's closer to me.

Thanks -- and Happy New Year!

I'm seven miles south of Wickersham and Oltorf. I could give you a ride.

Pat -- this might work. If you are still able to go, please email me at [masked] to let me know when you'd be by. I genuinely appreciate this! :)

This is probably a silly question, but I'll ask it since I'm a newbie: How do I find our group when I get to the center?

    December 30, 2013

    • Phoebe A.

We'll meet at the front cistern - it's a large stone tower.

I just found out I may have a guest that weekend. Would I be allowed to bring a guest to the Wildlife Center?

    December 29, 2013

    • Phoebe A.

Pat, the event is more than full, but I have a hard time saying no because you signed up early. Come ahead. We usually have a number of drop outs anyway.

Phoebe, you're very nice. Thank you. I don't know for sure about my guest. We'll see.

THIS EVENT is now filled. If you have signed up and decide not to go, PLEASE withdraw your name or let me know so that others who wish to go may do so. Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
