Let's Hike at Via Fortuna down to Barton Creek!

Saturday, January 18th, 9AM. Hike Via Fortuna. We will meet at the office complex on Via Fortuna which is off of Tuscan Terrace. To get there take the North Mopac exit off of 360 but stay on the service road. Shortly, you will see Tuscan Terrace. Turn right and go to the end to park. Walk back to the office complex's greenbelt entrance. We will hike down into the Barton Creek Greenbelt from there.
Bring water, snacks, hat, sunscreen and good shoes.

One of the best hikes in Austin with a great group.

    Karen,
I do not know the address. When you turn onto Tuscan way, you are facing the office complex. Park and look for what may appear to be a flash mob.

I must be in the wrong place...at the office building by the trail and no one is here

Is there an address for the office complex? I'm new in town and don't quite understand these intersections...

      Hi Karen,

Hope someone has some thoughts about getting coffee or maybe lunch after the hike. I have found that breaking bread with a group of hikers is a great way to really get to know each other. Any ideas?

      I am up for lunch!

    Hi Jan,

I have to retract due to allergy concerns, thanks so much.

    January 17, 2014

  • David

I am retracting my RSVP. Too many people and it should be limited according to sierra club standards

    January 17, 2014

  • becky s.

Thanks Jan. Even if half of the attendees show up that's still a lot. I'll catch the next one in March.

A message to Via Fortuna hikers:
If you really think that you will not be going on this hike, please retract your RSVP, so I have an idea of how much interest there really is.
I just returned from doing this hike with my dog because it has been a while and I wanted to check out trail conditions. There are 2 creek crossings; one is completely dry, the other is not, but I was able to get across via rocks and did not have any problem. We will need to cross slowly and carefully.
This trail is flanked by Cedar trees. Hundreds of them. If you have allergies, you may want to reconsider. I promise that I will lead this hike again either in March or April.
    See you in the morning!

This event has a very large crowd! If you'd prefer a more laid-back nature hike in far-north Austin, rather than a brisk hike, consider doing Walnut Creek instead http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Sierra-Club-Outings/events/160190082/

Jan, I want to go but whether I can or not depends when I get back to Austin (had to make an unexpected trip to my daughter's). Is it OK to RSVP really late (or just show up)? Based on the current # of people, I'm guessing there's not a maximum. Thanks!

      Sue, come if you can.

Starting a job at that office complex soon. I'm excited about working somewhere with good greenbelt access. But alas, I have to pass on this hike as I already committed to a gardening/aquaponics event that morning.

The pace will be a quick one. The hike should be 5 or so miles and this depends on what level the water in the creek is at. If any of you folks that signed up are not strong hikers, you may want to pass on this one. I always take the group into consideration but this group is potentially very large and I think that we need to just go. I would like to be done by noon, if possible.

What's the pace for this hike? Aerobic or relaxed?

    January 7, 2014

  • MARY A.

Backed out...rather do the birding on Lady Bird Lake. A bit different type of event.

    January 6, 2014

  • susan k

Backed off because group grew too large.

    January 2, 2014

    • Dave

Susan,Quite often the actual group that shows up is MUCH smaller than the group initially signed up.

      January 2, 2014

    • Mary W

      That's true, there's usually only a 50% turn out

      January 4, 2014

  • Mark A.

Group just got 1 smaller. I have to work (!). And Dave is right - only about 1/2 or slightly more actually show up.

    January 3, 2014

  • Sandra g.

    I am totally excited!

    January 3, 2014

How long should we allow for on Sat. for this walk?

    January 1, 2014

    • Jan A.

      3 hours to be safe
