I'm thinking that the large number for this year's Holiday party might be attributed to the public Meetup site now available on line. I noticed there were lots of people new to the Sierra Club there and perhaps checking it out for the first time. So, we may have missed an opportunity. As I was leaving, several people shared ideas about things we might consider for next year's event they having been somewhat disappointed in this year's party. I told them I would pass on their thoughts.

    l. Provide music, perhaps background music during the program and during eating and louder music for dancing after program and eating.
    2. Post a cut off date for signing up and sending in the check in order to give the food staff and workers setting up tables and chairs a correct head count.
3.Thoughts for a program.....provide a short history of the Sierra club its purpose and some of its goals. Show a film or slides of an outing. Discuss local outings program and have new member forms available.

these are very good suggestions, Phyllis. I sent my money in 2 weeks prior and I hardly got anything to eat...but, didn't let it keep me from having a good time. Just too many people. It will be better next time I'm sure..

Thanks to everyone for coming, hope it was a good time for all. Of the folks that RSVP'd (155) we had 105 show up. That combined with the folks not on Meetup slightly overwhelmed the staff at the beautiful Barr. We only expected maybe 75,which what the Barr prepped for. Considering the spectacular turn out they did a fantastic job. I hope we can find a way to get a better head count in the future. Thanks to Craig Nazor, Peter Beck. Phyllis G and everyone else that pitched in.
Emily, the concern was that live music might be too loud inside and the weather in Austin is too unpredictable for outside. If you have suggestions on this or any other aspect of the party please let us know. That goes for everyone. If you have suggestions on any aspect of the ASC don't hesitate to convey them to the ExComm.
Hope to see everyone at the general meeting on Dec 11th at Sholz Beer garten on San Jacinto at 6 for Happiness Hour and at 7 for the presentation. Thanks again and Happy Holidays to all.

I liked it when we had the classical trio that played Holiday music. Everyone ignored them and talked (it IS a social event), but the music was a great background.

it was a loud venue, chaotic with the food, and by the time I got to the chicken, all gone.
but, good that there was plenty of wine. Plus enjoyed meeting lots of new people.
