Lake Cleanup with Keep Austin Beautiful

Keep Austin Beautiful's Lady Bird Lake Cleanup happens every two months.  Join in the next one, on Saturday, February 9, 9:00am to 11:00am.  On water or on shore.  Kayaks donated by Congress Ave Kayaks <http://www.congresskayaks.com/>. Launching from Austin Rowing Club docks.  All kayakers must be able to swim; PFDs (life jacket) will be provided.  Meet at the city's new Waller Creek Boathouse.   Or, if you want to use your own kayak or canoe, you can launch at Holiday Inn Town Lake boat ramp and paddle up to the boat docks.  We will be cleaning in the area along the north shore of the lake, from Congress bridge to I-35 bridge, including the Waller Creek outlet.  Info at Keep Austin Beautiful <http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/LBLDec2012>;.

Today I found a bike tire, a pregnancy test (couldn't see the results), a sock, many plastic bottles, and lots of chopped up styrofoam. What did you guys find?

Good to meet you today... that tire was in really good shape. Some charity like "bikes for tikes" would put it to good use.

My husband and I found some interesting bottles and lots of ping pong balls (beer pong gone wrong?). Many thanks to Jack and Chris for your leadership.

It really made me more aware of all the garbage that accumulates in the lake. I'm opting out of use ANY more styrofoam ice chest!!

I really enjoyed it. It was nice to meet my shipmate, Kim, and to chat with her. We both gathered a good amount of rubbish. I was a little bummed at first that things seemed kind of namby-pamby at the boathouse (i was standing with paddles and no direction for a while), but things worked out well. I kinda wish we could do this more often!

I look forward to more outtings with this this great group! Thanks!

Filled up 4 bags of trash! Strange things included a toothbrush, several lip glosses, green plastic utility hole cover, and a Maxwell house coffee with a glass mason jar inside!?! Wet and smelly, but it looks so much better now....look forward to next time.

Had a great (wet and stinky) time! Thanks Jack for organizing this...a great event. We were in a kayak and did most of the work along the bank. Since everyone is bragging about their treasures I'll add that we found 15+ tennis balls and also a couple of shoes...nothing as good as a pregnancy test though!

Great, and I'm glad I made myself useful earlier thir morning. I even managed to pick up 5 shoes, but now they're someone elses treasure. I only filled up one full trash bag.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
