"Show off your new stuff" Hike

Whether your new possessions are material (jackets, boots, backpacks - perhaps brought by Santa) or spiritual (insights, attitudes, resolutions), this 4-5 mile easy-paced hike will give the opportunity to show the new you for 2013. The route will take us on the Shoal Creek greenbelt, around Ladybird Lake, and on to West Bouldin Creek.  May need to hop across the creek - depending on water level.  Meet at Noon at REI Downtown, 601 N Lamar.  OK to bring a well-behaved pet on leash.  Join us for food and drink afterwards across the street at Whole Foods. The club appreciates a donation of a few dollars.

It was a delightful day to be outdoors. I tend to forget how beautiful Lady Bird Lake is and enjoyed seeing so many people taking advantage of the sunny day. Thanks to Niles for reminding us that Lady Bird Lake is an environmental treasure that we need to protect.

Do we keep our cars parked at REI and start walking from therre? I am not very familiar with the Shoal Creek area.

We start from REI. Park where it is legal. There is free street parking on Henderson (east side of shopping center)

For next time- there is a multi-story parking garage in front of REI and the Book People. It is visible from N Lamar, but cannot be seen from Sixth St.

It was alright. Nice people and a beautiful day to be out in the fresh air. Better than the treadmill that's for sure.

Hi, I came down, but being unfamiliar with the area, it took me a while to find the REI. (I parked at Whole Foods). By the time I got there you had started. Sad that I missed out, but didn't want you to think I just blew it off. I appreciate the effort hike leaders make to arrange these events for others to enjoy.

This will be my first meetup. Do I need to do anything special or do I just show up? Any help is appreciated!

Just show up! For most serious hikes you're encouraged to bring a pack with water, snacks, extra clothes, cell phone, ID, compass, flashlite, etc
