Public Dharma Talk: Orientation as Vow - Not Misusing Sexual Energy

Rev. Daigan Gaither began Buddhist practice in 1995 in the Vipassana tradition, and then began to study Zen in 2003 with Ryushin Paul Haller Roshi. He received Lay Ordination in 2006 where he was given the name Daigan or “Great Vow”.  He received Priest Ordination in July 2011. His work, practice and free time include many hours devoted to community service in a variety of ways including his work as one of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and Zen Hospice Project. He has spoken nationwide on a variety of issues as well as having sat on a number of boards and committees that serve community needs and further social justice.

This public talk is FREE, but a donation for our visiting teacher would be most appreciated!

We are also hosting an afternoon workshop in the afternoon, and are very pleased to announce that we will be offering interpreters for the deaf community:

Precepts, Power, and Presence

Honoring Sexuality with Upright Awareness

What is it to be upright and awake in the midst of sexual energy? How do we not turn away from ourselves or our experience in the present moment? Using small group discussions, guided meditation, zazen, and open dialogue we will explore the Bodhisattva vow not to misuse sexual energy in the context of responsible sexual choices. How can we understand and relate to desire in healthy and respectful ways? Are we using our energies or being used by them? Join us as we explore what it means to practice while maintaining a healthy relationship to our sexuality.
