Plan is to head back to Joe's Crab Shack @ 9:30 p.m.

Couple of requirements you must have a light on your kayak for safety and a life jacket must be on!!

Running late, just loading my Kayak now. I'll try to catch up with the group. Do you know where you are going to be? Staying in the boats? Getting out and sitting on land?

    Quick questions:
    1. Is MOC closing at regular hour tomorrow? I kind of want to pick up the light on the way to Joe's...
    2. What do you guys normally do with car keys, phones, wallets, etc while paddling?

    March 15, 2013

  • Kelley S.

do u really need a light of some kind?

    March 14, 2013

    • Dan

Yes you need a light according to law. 360 dome light. But a head lamp, etc... will suffice since there is no boat traffic on Lady Bird Lake. Stick to the shores and with the group and you'll be good. 20 minute paddle from joes crab shack I believe.

Looking at last night's Hump day attendees to re-learn names for Friday night...and I remember many of the names. Except I don't think I met Farkle and everybody seems to like him/her. Maybe next time.

    March 14, 2013

    • Dan

Farkel is mean to most and nice to one. Farkel loves to put it all on the line every time. Usually Farkel stays up late and is the center of attention.

      March 14, 2013

  • Tom

I wasn't able to pick up the kayak light in time.

    March 14, 2013

    • Christina B

      Headlamp maybe?

      March 14, 2013

    • Dan

      Yup that's what I'd do

      March 14, 2013

  • Cheryl

So how does this work? Will we leave our boats and walk into the crowds or hang out in the boats only leaving to get supplies? Should I bring a bike lock for tethering my boat? I figured out how to jerri-rig my light to my inflatable kayak so hopefully will be ready! So excited!

    March 14, 2013

    • Dan

I think that the whole fun is to hang out in the boat and listen from the water. That's how most of these have worked in the past at Auditorium Shores. Cooler in the back + fun paddlers around = great times.

this is my first meetup with this group. can i rent a kayak there, and will it have a light

can you bring beer on the lake, prefer cans?

    March 12, 2013

    • Dan

Yes to bring beer... cans only no glass. No you can't rent there at Joe's Crab Shack but you can rent from MOC Kayaks off east cesar chavez for the night and bring it back on Saturday. Or REI has kayaks if closer to you. Lights aren't included so you would need to get some type of light for the evening.

      March 14, 2013

  • Cheryl

This is my first outing btw. Can the light be a head light?

    March 9, 2013

    • Dan

Supposed to be a 360 degree dome light I have a bunch for $20 at MOC Kayaks if needed. But if you can't make it in time a head light is better than nothing.

I've never been to a paddling meet up but would love to go to this one. How does this work, do I need to rent my own kayak and how much is it? Can I rent life vests there too etc?
