Limited to 20 people with own kayaks (No Ladybird Lake Rentals allow nighttime paddles). You need to competently paddle 3 miles, MUST WEAR LIFE JACKET AND HEADLAMP(turned on when you want it), AND ATTACH CONSTANT OR BLINKY LIGHT ON BOAT for others to see kayaks in the dark. Everything is tied/attached to boat for when you flip. Paddle leashes are handy as you will be floating for some time in the dark watching the bats, and need that paddle to get home.
Show up to launch at 6:15pm in the Austin High Ditch Ramp at curve in Stephen F. Austin Dr (Veteran's Blvd W. of Mopac). We will paddle downriver & up Barton Creek to Barton's Barking Springs Dog Pool, swimming with/without clothing optional, (Police ticketing for smoking, loose dogs, glass, loud filthy swearing and minor's with alcohol), then back down to Congress Ave Bridge for the Bat's Tornado, at SUPERMOON RISE 8:11pm. Small cooler with refreshments or cold water to keep hydrated. Listen to the Pontoon's or the Live/Love/Paddle's Bat Guides for Bat info. VERY dark after sundown in a yak, be prepared, test your lights now. Cruise back catching the ever-changing City Skyline. Load up yaks (ramp busy at this time too), head home. Jim Rankin is the Meetup Leader. You are all personally responsible for yourselves. I am only showing you the way there and back.
Safety is my #1, and it should be yours also: Buddy Up at start and keep an eye on them, and Everyone comes home in one piece. Please review trip description above for what you have to bring.
Kayakers without noted required gear or not wearing PFD's will be asked to leave this group trip for everyone's sake and well-being. No one sees you in the dark, you have to be self-rescuing if you flip.
Please help everyone's trip to be fun and to go smoothly.
We will have a moment of silence at the bats for Brother Wild Bill, who passed away recently doing what he loves.
