Double Whammy for San Marcos River Trash Fri, 8/29 - Mon 9/1

  • Aug 29, 2014 · 1:00 PM
Texas State Tubes fest & float. Westfield Crossing to nextdoor to Don's Fish Camp.
#TXRIVERFEST. Different than
Cool River Ranch's #Floatfest Sat/Sun/Mon, 8/30-9/1.
Westfield Crossing to Cool River Ranch/Don's Fish Camp

The river can't catch a break. 12,000 - 20,000+ tubers on these 4 days.

No use kayaking with tubes bank-to-bank on these days and it will be AN ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER with River Trash. I don't know what recourse can be taken against the event Sponsors.

Focus was to bring awareness of these two events to all of Central Texas and especially the county, state, and Federal Authorities that have the big sticks that can make a difference in the possible ecological disaster that has been scheduled for Labor Day weekend. Some successes so far: Caldwell Sheriff CANCELLED the Tx State Tubes fest, AAS front page Metro Section article/picture on looming disaster, San Marcos COC proving pallets of trash bags to be given out.

Sorry if it seems daft to ask but what is the action or focus of this as an event? Is it just to bring awareness to the issue? What action would you suggest we take toward a solution? How about (at the least) a post-tuber-onslaught organized clean-up effort?

The tubing outfits work in unincorporated county area (actually between counties, as the river is the border between Hays, Caldwell and Guadalupe counties.) Being in the county and on the county lines serves to limit how much the businesses can be regulated. There has been interest in making the San Marcos a linear state park, which would allow Texas Parks and Wildlife to regulate activity on the river.

When was your Texas State Tubing experience?

The organizers of these 2 events have no idea or no regard for the mess they are creating. What a pathetic joke.
