Team Tactics: Torchlight II

Torchlight II is a big, colorful loot-filled action RPG that I've been interested for a while now, but I've only just added it to my collection. So, the newb-ier, the better, because we're going to create a bunch of Level 1 characters and wreak some havok though the story!

Torchlight II supports up to 6-player simultaneous co-op over offline LAN or the Internet, so our options are flexible. I'd love to have a full 6-player party for the Meetup, and there's nothing keeping us from hosting more than one game session.

If you're interested, let me know! I can supply an extra PC or laptop to 1 or 2 people, first-come/first-served, but the great news is that Torchlight is GPU-light, and has been run successfully even on laptops without dedicated graphics cards. So don't let hardware stop you! I will announce the final gameplan once we have a tentative guest list.

Expect a lot of clicking, flashy action, food, drink and friends. Any questions? Let me know.

Once the technical problems were overcome, it was good playing with ya'll. Thanks!

Thanks for hopping in! Would have liked if the game were a little more stable, but we made it work! Not sure if the game shards had anything to do with the PC hosting or all the traffic on our network, but I'd be willing to try it again. :-)

I had a lot of fun. It was great meeting all of you. We should do this again. Next time borderlands 2 or another torchlight 2 game.

Yep, I'll definitely get more sessions scheduled!

Hey Internet gamers... Here is the information for our Torchlight game:
    Game name: "Slaughter Lane"
    Password: "meetup.com"

Note that you have to go to Load (character) --> Play (game) --> Internet (vs. Single Player/LAN) in the menus to select your internet game!

I really hate to do this but i just found out i will be unable to make the meetup tonight. I really apologize for the inconvenience, i hope in the future i can make it out with everyone.

    February 23, 2013

    • Jacob W.

Sorry to hear it Jason -- if you do want to jump into an online game tonight or later, let us know!

      February 23, 2013

Summary details (attendees: check email for more info!)

    How to contact Jacob:
    Cell:[masked]
(or via comments on the Meetup page)

    When to arrive:
The event page says the party starts at 5pm. But this is "doors open @ 5." Those embracing the old-school; porting PCs, monitors, etc, should show up on the early side. Others can arrive later.

Goal is to start Torchlight around 6:30, so we have a couple hours to play before anyone has to decide whether to get home early for bedtime! ;)

    What to bring:
You definitely need a computer, unless you've made arrangements to borrow one of mine, but I should have enough networking, power strips, etc, that you can plug into when you get here.

If you have a favorite snack or beverage, you're welcome to bring it, but we'll have a selection on hand. My preference would be for folks to bring $5 to pitch in toward a pizza order, so consider that option. :)

Looking forward to it; see you tonight!

I wouldn't mind playing with ya'll, but I won't be able to make it down there, as I won't be home until about 6 pm. Did you plan on setting up an internet game? Perhaps I could jump in at some point?

    February 23, 2013

    • Jacob W.

I'm thinking it's pretty likely we'll make the game Internet-available, since we can password-protect to make it a private session. What's the best way to keep in touch... Are you on Steam? If not, you provide an email address or cell # to reach you at later! You can send info to me at: [masked]!

I'm ready to play! DL the game onto my laptop and played for a while to familiarize myself with the game. I didn't go too far into the game.

Sounds good... I did the same, just to get a feel for the different classes. I like the Engineer so far, but all have been fun. Still undecided. :-)

So I've bought the Steam version of the game and downloaded it. I played for a little while, but without even rudimentary documentation, I'm a bit lost. Can someone point me at some basic play guides?

As a new TL2-er myself, I don't have any secret resources, but I did find the Torchlight II Armory has a good skill calculator for learning about the class skills, and the Wikia site is a decent reference fro the game mechanics. If you'd like more of a walkthough to get you started, there's always YouTube. But I fully intend for everyone to help each other as we get Started Saturday!

Hey there!! I just now saw this post in the group. Its been a long time since ive attended Austin Geeks and Gamers, in fact I was the original Organizer of the group before I past the torch to Jeff. So glad to see how successful its been doing. I love torchlight 2 and am really looking for more reasons why to play it and take my time enjoying it as i havent played it much since I got it (though loved it). I would love to come or hook up with other players from austin, my only problem is i dont have a laptop at my disposal. Id still like to come if i can, i dont know if i can borrow a laptop from you jacob as you said you had a few extra on first come basis, but I would like to try. Otherwise i can happily meetup with yall via the internet and play from home. Let me know what yall think is best and if i need to bring anything food wise and i will join in on the fun! :) thanks for organizing this.

Great! Yes, I can have a system available for you. If you already own it, we can use that copy of the game. Do you have it from steam or direct download from runic?

      February 18, 2013

    • Jacob W.

Oh, and sorry to have leapt straight into techie mode... The important message is that you should totally come! I have faith we can make it work. :-)

  • Jacob W.

Not to belabor the point, but it looks like the Steam sale actually lasts until noon our time (CST.) A bit longer to grab Torchlight at half-price if it sounds like fun!

I'm curious how many people in the group own/play Torchlight II? Are there enough players to form a good sized, flexible party?

You convinced me. I purchased it. I've enjoyed it so far. Definitely worth $10.

Sounds cool. I was a Diablo and Diablo II fan, so that's a big selling point. I may go ahead and order it. In general I'm a very methodical player, so I tend to drive some players nuts.

I can pack up my one and only Windows box and bring it. I normally only use it for dealing with my cellphone.

Since I'm a total beginner at the game, does anyone want to get together online beforehand?

    February 16, 2013

    • Jacob W.

Sounds great. I picked up the demo before buying or posting the meetup, to put it through its paces, and it plays very much like the earlier Diablo games, with smart improvements. We could get online prior to the event to get the basics down, but i'm hoping to keep things fresh so we don't have folks looking to speed-run through content they've seen already. Let's keep it in act 1, people! :-) And by the way, curious folk can find that demo at torchlight2game.com...
