  • Water/lunch/snacks
  • A folding/camping chair (if you want to sit off the ground or on something besides picnic tables)
  • Camping gear, personal items, change of clothes if you're staying overnight (this is "primitive camping" which means no running water, showers or electricity, but toilet facilities are available)
  • Flashlight
  • Towel/bathing suit
  • Boat or water shoes (non-marking)
  • Money (cash or check only) for park entrance fee (day use at park is $10/vehicle, overnight is $15/vehicle)
  • Pajamas for the pajama party for those staying the night (or for anyone who is just a little odd and wants to wear them to dinner & for the party or all day long?!)

What you'll need to prepare/arrange:

  • Where you meet your skipper/boat
  • Where you park your car/who you ride with (where you start and end the event may be different)
  • Animal/child care - this event lasts all day and until 10pm (or later if you stay). Most people are drinking and shouldn't be driving afterwards, so we encourage staying at a campsite or on a boat
  • Team oriented things like decorating yourself and the boat - there's no "theme" this year - it's up to you and the boat/team to decide what you want to do for costumes/boat decorations. There is a pajama party, though, so you could that as a "theme" (but clothing is required, even if you normally sleep in the buff-you know who you are).

Hey, Lily, I forgot the glass/T-shirt for Bill B - left it at Pizza Bistro - hope either you or Kirk or Greg noticed and one of you have it! I will be going to the yacht club possibly Thursday, Friday for sure to race that night, so let me know if I can pick it up on my way.

      June 11, 2013

We have the glass and shirt for Bill and will be sure he gets it. Thanks!

To the cat herders (pun intended): This was so much fun! Thanks for all the care and attention to detail you put into this year's HUNT. Bill, your brisket was the best -- I owe you a beer.

Thanks guys for the many kind words! Hopefully we have kicked started a great summer of sailing with new and old friends. It was so nice to see so many happy smiling faces around the party.

We have a blue and white chair that we recovered from the hunt site. Blue mesh laced to a white frame.

More to come I am sure.

Special Thanks go out to Kirk, Lily, Bill, the band, and everyone that helped put this Hunt 2013 together. Everyone on our boat had a blast, the food was out of sight awesome, the band was awesome, the event in whole was a great success. With more boats than any other Hunt this was a major undertaking. I think this team did an outstanding job!! ***** Five Star, First Class all the way *****

    2 · June 10, 2013

I must add that Kirk and Lily were wonderful hosts and did great job! The food couldn't be better (and AYC enjoyed Bill's cooking on Sunday!) and the "freebie" sponsors (the mocrobreweries and vodka punch) were quite enjoyed! And many thanks to Kirk for suggesting Frederic to help on my boat...he is a sailor extraordinair! And he did prove only 2 were needed to sail my boat! I look forward to more sailing and raft ups with this group!

Lily and Kirk - Thank you so much for putting on the most fabulous Hunt!! Everything was exceptional - well though out and executed to perfection. You must have put in hundreds of hours in making this happen and it really showed. I'm so glad we were able to participate and enjoy the day with you!

Thank you Captain Greg and all the wonderful crew. I understand that Ruth Mary T had a surprise guest on it in the end! Anyway thanks to all for an excellent day/ evening in the water. The food was outstanding. Oh special thanks needs to go out to two members of our crew who prepared fabulous jambalaya stew. The Hunt can bring out some of the best parts of life like back gammon etc. Sherry you and Jerry were over the top with everything. Looking forward to more sailing!

  • Glen M.

I had a fantastic time! The games were fun, the food was stellar, the band was great - Kirk, Lily, and Paul knocked it out of the park.

    June 9, 2013

  • Melanie ".

Directions weren't clear and a few things were missed, but it was still a fun event although the raft up group that played loud music most of the night was very inconsiderate of those who were trying to get some sleep.

This was my first experience with this Meetup group unfortunately I missed the boat literally and my Skipper Bill waited as long as possible to cast off which I sincerely appreciated. I am sure the other crew mbets were anxious and to that end my most humble apologies. Please forgive me whomever y'all are. Anyway the spirit of people with like minds and interests was overwhelming so much that I am now spoiled. I dare say my expectations for another Meetup group to beat this experience will not be very high. Thanks to the Admiral fo allowing me to take part. To cap off the evening the band was awesome and Bill's dedication as the chief cook for the BBQ and prepping for breakfast illustrates the type of people paying it forward. Just saying. Thanks to all who made this transplant welcome in Austin. Oh, and special thanks to Roger for one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in a long time.

    June 9, 2013

    • Lily A.

Thanks, George...sorry you missed the sailing, but I'm sure you've made some connections now so you can get out on the water soon. Welcome to Austin and the group!

It says I don't have access... I wonder if that's because the files are boat-specific... I did manage to get a map with the waypoints on it by converting my gpx to kml and importing it, but I get the feeling some of the details were lost in the translation.

      June 7, 2013

    • Gregory

Sorry, not sure what the access issue is. Was my first time using Google docs. I clicked on the share button and got that link.

Greg, do you still have room for 2 after hunt sat night to sail and ski?

      May 29, 2013

Hey, Greg, where are you at with capacity? A couple from my boat wanted to head back on Sat.

      May 30, 2013

  • Melanie ".

Just curious...since some crew may not want to stay overnight even if the skipper does, are any people planning to carpool over to Lago Vista and return in the evening? I'm hoping to stay on my boat if it's not ungodly hot...think it'll be quieter for sleeping than the camp:-)

My email is [masked] or[masked] if anyone wants to carpool

      May 23, 2013

I just posted a carpooling thread in the Discussions area for those who need a ride/can offer a ride back.

    May 23, 2013

  • Lily A.

A number of people aren't clear about how to handle transportation to/from this event. In case it helps, I've created a document that outlines a few suggestions that have worked for past Hunts (I'd post it here, but there are limitations on the length within this "chat" area). Please take a look and start a thread if you want to connect with others with carpooling needs.

For those of you who are attending the A.S.S. Cup 2013 and do plan to stay overnight at the campsite or on your skippers boat you will need to make arrangements accordingly. Keep in mind that your skipper may planning on a 24 to 48 hour weekend on there boats. Make sure you are clear about your skippers plans!
